Summary

Every passion has its price....

Journalist Sophie Ryder has been following Emery Lockwood's story since she was a little girl. There has always been something in his haunted eyes that she couldn't resist, and now, when she's certain he holds the key to solving a string of kidnappings, she'll do anything to speak to him. Even if it means venturing deep into the seductive world of the Gilded Cuff, a luxurious BDSM club on Long Island's Gold Coast and Emery's personal playground.

From the moment Sophie enters his shadowy, sensual domain, Emery Lockwood knows this tantalizing new little sub was meant to belong to him. However, Sophie wants more from Emery than just pleasure...she wants his past. And that is something he isn't willing to give--no matter who is asking. But every moment he spends with Sophie, Emery feels his control slipping, and he knows it's only a matter of time before he surrenders to her heart, body, and soul.

The Gilded Cuff - an awesome read!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Gilded Cuff to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the print version but the audio version was amazing. As with many other readers I enjoy some spice in the books I listen to or read. The strength of this book lies in the fact that while it is sensual and erotic it is also full of suspense.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Gilded Cuff?

I don't like giving away special moments in a book review - I think that takes away some of the intrigue for those who have not read the book. But I will say that this book has some very special moments that will suit a wide variety of readers

What about Veronica Den’s performance did you like?

I enjoyed Veronica's narration although some of her male voices did at times lack depth.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I don't usually listen to a book in one sitting but the book certainly held my interest.

Any additional comments?

Even if BDSM is not your thing dont let it put you off reading this book. The book is sensual and romantic but a thriller as well.

That's it?

What would have made The Gilded Cuff better?

Great backstory...no delivery of any BDSM qualities. Maybe one baby scene as a promo..but that was all. Even the romance wasn't fully explored! Just the angst of the vivid confusing recalls of a confusing, traumatic childhood event in Hero's early childhood! That's all the book consisted of!

Would you ever listen to anything by Lauren Smith again?

Couldn't set myself up for this kind of set-up & fail!

How could the performance have been better?

Ok,given the emphasis of trauma a little more emotion would make it easier to swallow.

What character would you cut from The Gilded Cuff?

The parents should have been better explored..wasted time even giving them a cliff notes notation!

Any additional comments?

Set up as an exploration of a novice to BDSM,never delivered of any kind. Told of a great romance..told of D/s tendencies just no delivery on any front!! Such a disappointment!

THE GILDED CUFF is an excellent blend of eroticism

If you could sum up The Gilded Cuff in three words, what would they be?

Gripping! Thrilling! Enthralling!

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Gilded Cuff?

Since Emery is a member of the Gilded Cuff, a luxurious BDSM club on Long Island’s Gold Coast, Sophie will come in his personal playground! Their first meeting was breathless and sensual!

Which character – as performed by Veronica Den – was your favorite?

I preferred the character Sophie!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No, I loved every pages, it's was a real page turner!

Any additional comments?

If you love Lauren Smith's books, then you will enjoy her audio books! I can guarantee it!

no originality

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Some originality and a lead lady that actually has a backbone and doesn't vacillate for the sake of the author filling time in "though" dialogue.

Has The Gilded Cuff turned you off from other books in this genre?

Pretty much - it was a waste of a credit.

What three words best describe Veronica Den’s voice?

Good.

What character would you cut from The Gilded Cuff?

All of them -

No puppies were harmed, not a bad effort

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This was a pretty good effort. Interesting enough to make me reverse over sections I missed when I got distracted while listening. That said some of the dialogue and emotional "trauma" was superficial and as a suspense/thriller it is lightweight. It's a romance however, meant to be entertaining and not great literature, in both those aspects it delivers.

Any additional comments?

I had to laugh at some of the reviews. This book is not about BDSM, it plays a small role in the story. Some of the reviewers were shocked by the presence of some aspects of BDSM despite it being specifically mentioned in the overview. Seriously, anyone with 2 brain cells to rub together would know to stay away from books like this if BDSM gives them vapours.

Let this glide your ears

way beyond 5 stars but then I'm not surprised. Lauren is a fantastic writer that just draws you in .This was more rich than decadent chocolate. It was so mind blowing I felt that I was right in the same room as Emery and Sophie.
Sophie is a reporter and she goes to the BSMN club hoping to meet Emery Lockwood. She wants to help solve the 25 yr. old kidnapping mystery and death of his twin Fern. She has a hunch that the kidnapper will try to strike again and try to finish what was started. She wants to solve it because her Best friend was Kidnapped and killed when they were young Sophie goes to the BSMN club and that is where you meet Royce also, one of Emery best friend and a Dom, Emery and Royce do a bet and whoever wins gets a prize. Wont tell you what the prize is you need to get the story and find out. Emery finds on Sophie a picture of him when he was young and he starts to ask questions. That is where he finds out she is a reporter. They also make a deal for the story.
Emery takes Sophie home to Lakewood Manor and that is a first for him he never takes a lady from the club home. He does tell Sophie how it will be and how a sub and Dom act towards each other. Small little things start to happen. The Grandfather clock that hadn't worked in years go off and takes Emery back to his years with Fern. He throws Sophie out of the house into the rain with just a tee and shorts. Someone from afar was watching waiting to strike. There is another scene with the Barn burning down so everyone can vacate the house . The Person left Ferns shoe in the kitchen counter.
You don't know who is trying to kill Emery off. Their is scenes after scenes that trying to Trigger him off and open him up.
Sophie meanwhile has the beautiful cuffs that are shown in the picture but she has captured Emery's heart I would say soul but its to early in the story to say that. But you can see it. The little things that Emery and Sophie do for each other . The little things that mend their hearts and heal them. Emery will not let Sophie go . Not a regular Dom/ Sub story. Last part is a scene, just a glimpse showing Fern is still alive
There is somebody out there playing games with them all. There is a whole lot more going on but I cant tell you or Ill be telling you about the whole story. Grab it and you will be addicted .

The Gilded Cuff

The BDSM club scene is one of my favorite sub genres. The characters in this book are very complicated. I like the way the solution to the mystery is being held until the next book in the series. After reading the first chapter in the second book I can't wait to get started.
Veronica Den is a narrator I want to here more of even after the end of this series. I sometimes stay in my car after arriving at home just hear her voice.

Mystery Cold Case & some light DS

I enjoyed it - the heroine wants & trys to help solve an old cold case. She has a sixth sense that leads her in the right directions.
Narrator did OK, but some of the male voices were weak.
