Publisher's Summary

How do you tell a man there is something wrong with his child?

He wasn't looking to love again. But what he got was a woman who shook his lonely bitter world upside down, and touched him in a way no other woman could.

Emily Nelson, a courageous young mother, ends a loveless, bitter marriage and strikes out on her own. She answers an ad for a cook and live-in caregiver to a three-year-old boy on a local ranch. Ranch owner Brad Friessen hires and moves in Emily and her daughter. But Emily soon discovers something's seriously wrong with the boy, and the reclusive, difficult man who hired her can't see the behavior and how delayed his son is. So Emily researches until she stumbles across what she suspects are the soft signs of autism. Now she must tell him, give him hope, and help him come to terms with this neurological disorder - to take the necessary steps to get his child the help he needs.

As their lives become intertwined, their attraction is unavoidable - a connection sparks between them. But just as they're getting close, Brad's estranged wife, Crystal, returns after abandoning the family two years earlier. Among the shock and confusion is one disturbing question Brad can't shake: How does Crystal know so much of his personal business, the inner working of the ranch, and Emily's relationship with his son?

Crystal must've had a plan, as she somehow gains the upper hand, driving a wedge in the emotional bond forged between Brad, Emily, and the children. The primary focus for care and therapy of three-year-old Trevor is diverted. The lengths to which Crystal will go, the lies, the greed, just to keep what's hers, are nothing short of cold and calculating. Emily's forced out of the house. Brad fights to save his boy, to protect what's his, and struggles over his greatest sacrifice - Emily - and the haunting question: Has he lost her forever?

    "Interesting and captivating story"

It has been a new experience for me to listen to a book. I have enjoyed it immensely as I have been able to do craft while listening. The story is not mind blowing, but nevertheless interesting and entertaining. Well worth buying.

    "The Forgotten Child"

I really like the story line behind this book. I am an avid reader and would refuse to listen to audio books, my mom tried for years to get me to listen to them. One day I decided to try as life got busy and I thought why not. With that being said the narrator has to be exceptional for me to truly enjoy the book. It was very hard for me to finish this one even though the story was so amazing due to the narrators voice. It was very irritating. I would recommend this book just not so much the Audible version. Please excuse the rambling as this is my first review ever.

"I love the concept, but found the story lacking"

I started with pretty high hopes for this story based on the description, but by the end of it, I didn't really care about any of the characters, except the boy (who we don't really get to know very well). The story starts out okay, and held my attention as it developed, but somewhere in the middle, I began to lose interest. It seemed like it started wandering a bit, or maybe there was too much going on. I wish it would have had more on the father's developing relationship with his son.

The narration was okay, but didn't really enhance the story at all.

    "Good"

The reviews made it sound like this is about an autistic boy. Not so. He is a small pat of the story. It's about unhappy marriages, deceit and romance. The narrator is average.

I didn't like the choppiness of the reader. Not at all. The story was "ok" but it's not believable..... You need to work on the details, make it more like real life.

    Story
    "Can't get past the narration"
Would you try another book from Lorhainne Eckhart and/or Melissa Moran?

Not with this narrator. I listened to chapter one. I can't get past the narration on this book, it's gone. Good thing I didn't spend a lot of money on it. I gave the story line a 3 only because the story itself did not turn me off at the point I quit.

If you’ve listened to books by Lorhainne Eckhart before, how does this one compare?

    I have not

How did the narrator detract from the book?

She has the most annoying voice and no inflection that adds to the story.
