Summary

The cold, precise Duke of Montford demands things his way: neatly ordered, in place, and adhering closely to the rules. So he is furious when he learns that the tenant of his ducal estate has been dead for a year, and a stranger has been running the Honeywell business - which, by contract, is now Montford's. When he arrives in Yorkshire to investigate, he discovers that the estate is being run by an unruly, tomboyish woman - and a bluestocking at that!

Fiery redhead Astrid Honeywell is independent and educated. She's been handling the Honeywell family business for years. And she's not about to relinquish it to anyone - not even Montford - because of some archaic contract.

Montford and Astrid have an instant hatred for one another...and an undeniable, unspeakable attraction. They must resist this improper desire - after all, Montford has a fiancée in London. But when Astrid's life is placed in terrible danger, Montford finds he may be willing to risk everything to save her.

Terrible

I wasted a credit on this book. It's too long , poorly written. To be honest it's silly.
It took about two months for me to finally complete..

A very enjoyable story

I thoroughly enjoyed the story! And i will definitely be reading more by this author. I was a little put off by the narration - it did seem quite robotic at the start (and I thought it was possibly AI), but as the story progressed, the narration got a lot better

Very good fun

Makes you laugh, particularly the scene with the pig, when Mountford first encounters la famille Honeywell.... little did the poor sod know!

Awful!

I really did try to listen to this, but I had to admit defeat. The narration was just so awful and overdone, and it really grated on my nerves. Also, the story was boring, and Astrid was so annoying I wanted to slap her. Enough said.

Quite ridiculous! But...

Although the behaviour of many of the characters is quite preposterous for the times and the language.. is at times very modern!!!! Nevertheless I did quite enjoy this, however, because it didn't have that historical accuracy I'm not sure I'll be bothered to look into the rest of the series, I prefer proper history with a story within it, rather than this which is a story set in a period, almost cynically appalling to those that just want the raunchy bits, whereas for me, the history is a priority and the romance is the bonus. I think, just not an author for me.

A funny loveable romance

This book had me chuckling out loud at times. I love the way the way the characters intermingle with each other and the way their lives change. A must listen for all romantics. Can't wait to hear the next book. Thank you for the fun Maggie Fennton and Sue Pitkin.

Fun story, somewhat horrible narration.

The story was fun, a proper, or not so proper, Regency romp. The narrators voice was nice and pleasant to listen to, but her character voices were just horrible. So horrible that they were almost laughable. But the story is worth listening too, if you can tolerate her horrible accentss.

Don't go there

If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?

I am not sure I would recommend to anyone I'm afraid

What could Maggie Fenton have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Sometimes, one sentence will do! Get to the point!

What three words best describe Sue Pitkin’s performance?

Clear, light and bright

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

It actually sent me to sleep!

Any additional comments?

I have read many many period romances and this is by far the worst. The storyline was weak and far too verbose. So much so that you forget what point the author is trying to make. Very poor
