Summary

Two backcountry skiers find the body of a young woman embedded in the ice of a remote mountain creek. All through the night police work with arc lights and chainsaws to prise her out. Identifying her doesn't take so long.

Abbie Cooper is wanted for murder and her picture is on law enforcement computers all across America. But how did she die? And what was the trail of events that led this golden child of a loving family so tragically astray?

Nicholas Evans is one of Britain's best-loved authors. His previous four novels, The Horse Whisperer, The Loop, The Smoke Jumper and The Divide, have been acclaimed international best sellers, translated into 36 languages. The Horse Whisperer alone has sold 14 million copies worldwide, and was made into a celebrated movie directed by Robert Redford.

Nicholas Evans studied at Oxford University and worked as a newspaper reporter and television screenwriter before turning to fiction. He is married to singer/songwriter Charlotte Gordon Cumming.

time well spent.

I wasn't quite sure where things were heading as the different strands were spread out. The author then pulled things together and shared with us the back story which was easy on the ear. Just like the Horse Whisperer not on edge of your seat stuff because it didn't need to be
. would recommend.

Great book

I have always liked Nicholas Evans books but haven't read one for a while. This was up to his usual high standard and I will re visit his previous novels having enjoyed The Divide so much. His ability to span the lows and depths of human emotion is brilliant. It is a shame he hasn't written more novels.

I love Nicholas Evans...

and if you do too, you will love this book. The usual well rounded characters, intriguing tales, set against a most epic backdrop.

Average

When I saw there was a Nicholas Evans book I hadn't read I got it immediately. I did not like this nearly as much as previous books though I admit it has been a long time since I read Loop, Smoke Jumpers and of course the Horse Whisperer. I felt this was overwritten and at times descriptions were just so over the top it made my eyes roll. Maybe I am just older and my perspective has changed but I find I no longer consider myself a fan of Nicholas Evans writing.
