Summary

A centuries-old curse, a mysterious amulet, and a young love reignite a vendetta that had died down long ago…When seventeen-year-old Samantha goes on a school-exchange trip to Scotland, she takes with her an old pendant that she found amongst her grandmother's belongings. As soon as she arrives at her host family's home, she is drawn into the country's tales and myths. Then she meets the dangerously attractive Scot Payton - a mysterious Highlander who soon conquers Sam's heart. Caught up in her feelings, she doesn't realize how much danger she's in. Payton's past holds a dark secret. A secret that has bound together both their families' fates for hundreds of years and is now also endangering Sam's life.

Maybe the book is good? Narration is AWFUL

This narrators voice was the most grating thing I've ever heard. Super monotonous and shaky. I couldn't take it. I don't even know what this book is about-I couldn't turn my focus away from the TERRIBLE narration.

Intriguing and well written

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

The book is good but I had to take some breaks during this because the accents were sooo thick. She did a great job with this book and bringing it to life. Ready for the next.

Any additional comments?

Good read.

Cringeworthy!

The narrator ruined this for me. He make Scottish accents was so bad I could not finish the book. She would drag out the words so long. The cadence was off and just so annoying. I don't know who even let this get published that way. Unbelievable.

A waste of time

Would you try another book from Emily Bold and Jeanette Heron (translator) and/or Justine Eyre?

The book was overblown and so over-the-top dramatic that I was 18 minutes to the end and I gave up. I didn't even care how it ended; I just wanted it to stop.

What was most disappointing about Emily Bold and Jeanette Heron (translator) ’s story?

The plot has been done so much better by a myriad of authors. It was tame enough to be a teen book but not complex as many good teen romances are. The heroine is written as a shallow, and rather stupid girl. The hero was easily mistaken for all the other Highlanders. At the end, i just didn't care about them--and I certainly wouldn't waste any more time on the other two books in the series.

Would you be willing to try another one of Justine Eyre’s performances?

I have liked many of Ms Eyre's performances but this was one was not good. The Scottish accents were painful to listen to.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I'd have to say that it did not have any redeeming qualities. I'm sorry I wasted my time hoping it would get better.

Any additional comments?

I'm not a teen but I enjoy teen books but this was a bad teen book.
