Summary

The new novel from Sunday Times best seller Dilly Court.

She turned the picture of the Christmas card over with her frozen hands. The scene showed a family at Yuletide as they gathered around the magnificent tree. Standing stiff with cold on the icy cobbles, Alice could only dream....

With the snow falling steadily, Alice and her ailing mother have found themselves on the cold streets of London with only debts to their name - forced to rely on the begrudging charity of cruel Aunt Jane. Determined to rid herself of an expensive responsibility, Jane instead tries forcing Alice into a monstrous marriage.

Even though Alice knows her aunt will turn her out, she refuses the marriage and is sent to work in a grand house to earn her keep. Finding herself in sole charge of the untamable and spoilt young miss of the house, Alice's only ally is handsome Uncle Rory, who can see she's more than a mere servant. But when someone sets out to destroy her reputation, Alice can only pray a little Christmas spirit will save her from ruin....

Delightful, magnificent & brilliantly narrated.

Any additional comments?

This is must for all Dilly Court fans as well as a wonderful feel-good heart warming read for those who are new to her books. As a lover of the combination Dilly Court and Annie Aldington I was really looking forward to listening to “The Christmas Card” and was certainly not disappointed as yet again Dilly Court presented us with another wonderfully written uplifting novel set around the familiar London back streets.

This historical saga begins as the heroine Alice finds herself in changed circumstances following the death of her father. Left only with his debts and “The Christmas Card,” Alice and her mother are forced to seek refuge with her penny pinching Aunt Jane. The plot then unfolds from Aunt Jane’s home as we very quickly meet most of the characters who are equally well written and delivered with faultless perfection by Annie Aldington’s wonderful narration.

At the beginning we are very quickly given an explanation of all the characters, so there is no confusion or trying to work out who is who. Without giving too much away this book is a typical Dilly Court saga with the heroine attempting to overcome adversity in a feel good story that totally absorbs you in the atmosphere of the lives and world of the characters. Horace seems to resemble Mr. Collins from Pride & Prejudice and he certainly made me laugh out loud in places.

Quickly conveyed into the tangled emotional rollercoaster of the story, I was kept gripped and intrigued until the very end and was unable to put it down, finishing it on the same day as I started it.

Would I recommend it? Yes, this book is an absolute must; Floras last line really made me smile and was a perfect end to a remarkable tale.

Soo, soo boring

I first loved Dilly Court story's. I can't believe I've spent so much £ on her audio books hoping for the first thirst for next book, the later books did help me to (sleeeeep) I think I will write your next book Dilly. I'm no story teller, but, here goes .Young women/child falls on hard times, 2 or more men fall in love with her, 1 is very rich and wants to rescue her. but, she doesn't need this help as she is soo strong because you keep telling use, she has a redicule .cant spell this, I think this is a handbag She takes poor unloved venerable women/child under her wing,.. .. bad man/woman out to get her.. rescued by kind/rich man. You go into much boring detail about her clothing, whereabouts ,wallpaper, seriously!!! LAZY writing. Dilly you started so well.

I will be asking for refund from Amazon. Dilly you started as a wonderful writer, stop being lazy lovlie.
I BET THIS REVIEW WILL BE LAST. Listeners need to know.
