Summary

Nina McCarrick has it all: a loving husband, two beautiful boys, a well-appointed home and more time than she knows what to do with. Life is perfect. Until her husband, Finn, is killed in a car accident and everything Nina thought she could rely on unravels.

Alone, bereft and faced with a mountain of debt, Nina quickly loses her life of luxury and she begins to question whether she ever really knew the man she married. Forced to move out of her family home, Nina returns to the rundown Southampton council estate - and the sister - she thought she had left far behind.

But Nina can't let herself be overwhelmed - her boys need her. To save them, and herself, she will have to do what her husband discouraged for so long: pursue a career of her own. Torn between the life she thought she knew and the reality she now faces, Nina finally must learn what it means to take control of her life.

Bestselling author Amanda Prowse once again plumbs the depths of human experience in this stirring and empowering tale of one woman's loss and love.

Excellent

It was a beautiful story and as always it was narrated by Amanda herself which makes it as she has a lovely voice . I am buying all hurt books as she is one of the only authors I know who narrates her own work and it absolutely makes it come to life .

Beautifully written and Narrated by Amanda Prowse

I just can not get enough of Amanda’s books at the minute. I just love everything about them.
The realistic storylines, the relatable characters, the in depth theme of the book, they are just the full package for me and never disappoint.
This book starts off with a massive blow for Nina and her boys and sees her having to rebuild her life with them, and yet again Amanda has captured the true feelings of what people must go through in situations like this. I felt ever bit of Nina’s emotions when it came to her boys, and the fact she was trying to do her absolute best for them. As a mother to a son, that really pulled at my heart strings.
Amanda just seems to hit the nail on the head whenever she covers real life situations and just really draws you into the lives of her characters.
She is just simply a beautiful writer.

List of life lesson

I had high hopes for this book and the first third maybe even half was good & interest. The rest of the book however, was just a list of life lessons to be learnt and take note of. It wasn’t really like listening to a book anymore, just lists that had been dragged out because the author wants you to learn a lesson, heed a warning and take notice of what’s good in life for you to cherish. It was just one after another after another. Also quite weird after a while to hear every word read in full. Always saying you are and never you’re, etc. Even posh people don’t speak like that all of the time. It just didn’t seem natural.

Get a proper narrator!

I really wanted to listen to this book but the narrator (author) really put me off. I found the narration to be very annoying.

Not great

I found it clumsily written somehow, predictable and saccharine. Narration was clear but clipped. Easy to follow, would be OK to listen to while travelling.

Listen to this- you won’t regret it

Excellent, thought provoking, heart warming story. Loved the narration- Amanda has a lovely voice. Great characters that you can relate to and that are believable. Excellent storyline. You won’t want to finish this, I didn’t. So very well written, thoroughly enjoyable. I have already recommended this book to several people,

Disappointing throughout

Unfortunately this was another whiny by Amanda just like the one before. Sad, constant misery with no real kick to the story except more whining.

Oh, Amanda!

I love her books, but she really needs to stop being so self indulgent and let a decent narrator voice her work. That random whispering voice made me want to throw my phone at the wall and ruined what was actually brilliant story.

Loved it!

I was quite hesitant to listen to this book after reading the synopsis. Did I really want to read a story of loss, of tragedy, of family trauma? Sometimes words can ring too close to home I thought, but knowing Amanda’s books I knew it wouldn’t be ALL doom and gloom so I purchased it and I’m so glad that I did! This story is gut wrenching in parts, it is heartbreakingly sad and shocking in others, and it deals with real life in all it’s painful, soul searching glory. However at the same time it made me feel so grateful for the life I DO have, made me realise that possessions are just those, possessions! What matters really is love and family and good friends. What matters are real people, down to earth, genuine good people, family and friends who step up when the chips are down. It really doesn’t matter how big your house is, how flashy the car is you drive or how many holidays you have, what matters is you can keep a roof over your head, put food on the table and stay strong enough and healthy enough to be there for each other. I feel like I’ve had therapy after reading this book! Thanks Amanda for yet another belter! :)
