Publisher's Summary

Celebrated actress Scarlett Thomas never wanted fame - that was her parents' dream. Now she's ready to make big changes, but she never could have imagined how big those changes would turn out to be. Returning to the medieval Dunskirk Castle, where she filmed the Puppet War trilogy, she encounters an old Scotsman named Donell who directs her to an ancient claymore that sends her back in time to 16th-century Scotland.

Scottish border lord James Hepburn, laird of Achenmeade, is a man at loose ends. The illegitimate son of the old king's illegitimate daughter, he has no place in his father's home and no freedom to forge a future of his own. When war with England looms once more on Scotland's horizon, James must not only fight for his country but also try to battle his growing attraction to a slender, sassy lass who tempts him to defy his sire and his king.

As the days pass, bringing them closer to war and to each other, Scarlett and James discover that their differences are not so profound as their similarities. But when they are confronted with the opportunity to live their lives freely, as they choose, will they seize their chance before the Battle of Flodden separates them forever?

    "Taken"

Fantastic story as are the others in the series so far... however the male narrator spoilt it somewhat. He was not good, didn't flow well and voices poor.

    "Taken, audio version"

I loved this story and enjoyed Ms. Fortin's writing as well as Mr. Ferguson's narration. He always does an excellent job, and this one was no different. True, his Southern accent was truly southern, but people who are not born and raised in the south, have a stereotype they believe is the true Southern accent. Actually, it depends on which part of the south you're from as to how it should accurately sound. Charleston, Savannah, Atlanta, all have several different variations, depending on location, social standing, and upbringing. Even in "Gone with The Wind", Vivien Leigh was British, not southern. Though it was irritating to many true southerners, she did as well a job as any probably would have and her "look" was right. I think anyone who complains about Mr. Ferguson's rendition, should stop complaining. It is one of the most difficult patterns of speech to replicate and I thought he did as good a job as anyone would have.. To have such a variety of voices and brogues/accents to perform, I thought he did admirably! I love Ms. Fortins plot, depth of characters, and historical accuracy/knowledge of the history. Well researched and planned out. The entire series has been enjoyable to me, audio as well as the ebook, but then I read, or listen, for the content of the story. As a past teacher, I don't allow myself to miss out on the actual story by looking for or dwelling on things I may think should have been done differently. I'm not a writer or narrator so commend those who are!

    "time travel"

I enjoy the time travel books. I look for new ones all the time. Ferguson is a good male narrator but he really has a hard time with female voices. I can not get into the female parts. He gives them a different attitude then I feel they should have. Other than that good book. I may just have to read this one.

    "Good Story- terrible narration!"

Although I liked the story... Antony's narration ruined it for me. His lack of compassion & true emotion when it came to Scarlett 's parts... and all the other female characters was appalling!:( His botched attempt at a southern accent was laughable & inability to "read" the emotion of the scene was apparent. Wouldn't recommend this book to hear on audible because of it. I think reading it myself would have been much better. I plan on reading the next in this series myself... cuz the story and author was well worth it!

"I think I like time travel romances"

oh my goodness. let me premise this review by saying i've had some unsatisfying stories over the past few weeks so where as this book was actually a 3.25 I bumped it up to a 4 for sheer enjoyment.

I always enjoy time traveling historicals. While I'm still confused regarding the how and why but with that aside the story was nice. I really enjoyed the sass of the heroine and the sexiness of the hero. I'll definitely look for another story from this author.

    story 3.25
narrator 4 i LOVE Antony Ferguson. His highland brogue is awesomely sexy. His american accent is laughable and always sounds southern, but someone did him a solid and gave him a southern american character....lol. TOO FUNNY AND AWESOME!!

    "Great story, interesting but...."

I really liked the story and really like Angeline Fortin's writing but almost stopped listening before I got involved in the story. I highly disliked the narrator's female voice to the lead female character of the novel. Never got used to that. He did wonderful on male voices.

Salacious but storytelling was painful. Southern accent terrible. Do not waste your valuable time on this one. No important historic information covered.

    "Sooo Frustrated!!!! "
    What disappointed you about Taken?

oh my gods kill me now! I did not finish this book cause the main female character is an idiot. So disappointed in this book!

Every few sentences out of this woman's mouth I found myself rolling my eyes. It's torture! It's as if she's never in her life watched a tv show / movie with characters from the 1500's, even though she says she goes to ren fairs and watches doctor who!

And to top it off she's constantly talking about modern day stuff as if these people understand what the hell she's saying because obviously they have this tech. What's worse is that they just accept it. She also states constantly that she's never heard of the places they are traveling through. Well no freaking duh! Why is it needed for her to report this? She's 500 years in the past!!!!

    UGH!!!! so frustrated!

What didn’t you like about Antony Ferguson’s performance?

This performance was absolutely atrocious! He did great with the male voices, but the female voices where beyond terrible. My ears felt like they were beginning to bleed! Could they seriously not find a female actress to read a story who is told mainly in a woman's voice?

"Narrator should stay away from female voices. I couldn't finish the story because I thought the female voice sounded lterrible"

The narrator for this book was terrible with the female vocals. The other books were narrated by another and she was great. Of the narrator is not good it doesn't matter how good the story is. Couldn't finish.
