Publisher's Summary

Linnie Wayfair knows just how many people are counting on her. But knowing doesn't make doing any easier.

Everyone in Sweet Lake, Ohio, wants her to muster all her business sense and return the Wayfair Inn to its former glory. Her parents hope she'll forgive her scoundrel of a brother and reconcile the family. The eccentric Sweet Lake Sirens want her to open the inn - and her heart - to new possibilities. And her hilarious lifelong friends Jada and Cat are dropping none-too-subtle hints for her to ignite a romance with Daniel Kettering, the sexy attorney who's been pining for her for years...

Now a shocking turn of events will open old wounds and upend the world Linnie has carefully built. She has to make changes quickly - and the results, though not entirely what she expected, might be what she's been yearning for all along.

    "Just okay"

The story was actually not that bad. It had sine pretty funny characters in it, although the main character drove me nuts. No spunk, no stand up for yourself. But the narration just killed this book for me. Her voices drove me up the wall. So I kept changing what she said into something better in my head. I think I will stay away from books with her as a narrator

    "Disappointing"

I love listening to sweet little romances but this one was painful: Cartoonish characters acting irrationally. Shallow narration. Just plain painful.

"Didn't Get Far in this One"
What would have made Sweet Lake better?

Characters are not plausible. Dialogue is weak. Observing real people and how they talk would help.

Would you ever listen to anything by Christine Nolfi again?

    No.

What didn’t you like about Carly Robins’s performance?

Not a bad narrator, but the gushiness seems inappropriate to the setting and age of characters.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

    No.

    Any additional comments?

Maybe it got better. The first chapters were all I could take.

    "Didn't finish it"
What was most disappointing about Christine Nolfi’s story?

This story did not catch me at all. Everything was uninteresting or annoying. The love relationship was bland (at least in the beginning, I didn't get any further), the characters of the brother and mother were so annoying I couldn't stand them - not to mention the shit gender bias. These characters also were played pretty pompous, sounded like uptight Britians even though they were American. Most of the characters were just plain annoying, and not in the love-to-hate them kind of way. The story just seemed to be the main character battling the ridiculousness of the others.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Carly Robins?

No idea, it just seemed strange that some of the characters took on British qualities.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

potentially later on. I didn't finish it, and usually I stick with a book.

"Great Start to a New Series!"

This is the first book I have read by Christine Nolfi and it won't be the last. I loved Sweet Lake and can't wait for the next book. This town drew me in from the first page and didn't let go. The Sweet Lake Sirens had me laughing out loud and I can not wait to find out more about this crazy group of women.
