Publisher's Summary

She's the only one who ever loved him - and the only one he can never have.

Jude lost everything one spring day when he crashed his car into an apple tree on the side of the road. A man is dead, and there is no way he can ever right that wrong. He would forever steer clear of Colebury, Vermont, if he could. But an ex-con in recovery for his drug addiction can't find a job just anywhere.

Sophie Haines is stunned by his reappearance. After a three-year absence, the man who killed her brother and broke her heart is suddenly everywhere she turns. It's hard not to stare at how much he has changed. The bad boy who used to love her didn't have big biceps and sun-kissed hair. And he would never volunteer in the church kitchen.

No one wants to see Sophie and Jude back together, least of all Sophie's father, the police chief. But it's a small town - and forbidden love is a law unto itself.

    "Farming never felt so appealing"

A subtle second chance connection between sportsman turned farmer Griffin and Audrey was a satisfying listen. These two had chemistry but a relationship that took the slow build. I liked the farm setting, the family context and the connection.

    Narration was good, dual POV.

    "Love this series"

I loved Jude in book 1. I love him even more now I've read his story, and what a story! We follow Jude as he moves back to his hometown of Colebury and starts working back at his father's garage. Jude thinks his childhood sweetheart, Sophie will be long gone, surprisingly though she's still in town, living in her family home. Neither of them have seen each other since he was sent to prison over 3 years previously. It would seem though that some things haven't changed, firstly their desire for each other, and secondly their need to keep any contact they have with each other a secret. Sophie's dad, the police chief, hates Jude and blames him for the death of his son (Sophie's brother). Sophie still wants answers from Jude about the night her brother died, but Jude can't give her them. No one will answer her questions so she starts her own investigation. So many twists and turns in this excellent story which has some fantastic characters with strong hearts and lots of passion. I was hooked from the beginning and I can't wait to see what Ms Bowen produces next. Whatever it is I'm first in line.

    "Just Beautiful"

Sarina Bowen has done it again. Jude is one of the most beautifully written characters that I have ever encountered and the narrators knocked it out of the park. I didn't think that I could love this novel any more than I did after I read it... outstanding work.

"5 Stars for this Audiobook, Writer, and Narrators"
    Any additional comments?

I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review. I loved this audiobook as a continuation in a series or a standalone. I had previously purchased the ebook and audio upgrade for the first book in the series, but hadn't gotten around to listening to it yet. I went ahead and listened to it first when I was given this second installment. I was unsure how I would like them since this is my first experience with the author and the narrators. However, the author and narrator, Jeffrey Kafer are praised and highly recommended in my facebook group Aural Fixation, so I thought I should give them a try. I FLoved them!!! The writing is excellent with the characters and their world, and the narrators did an excellent job of bringing them to life. I fell in love with Jeffrey Kafer's sexy, gruff and growly voice. I am now looking up other titles of his work to listen to. I can't wait for the third installment of this series to be released so I can emerge myself back into this world. Highly recommended.

    "Great Listen"

I usually stay away from books about high school and teenage angst, but this coming of age story, overcoming addiction, overcoming heartbreak, and finding truth is more than worth the listen. I read the book and listened to the story. I loved the portrayal of the characters by Seraphine Valentine and Jeffrey Kafer, both new narrators to me. I thought they did a great job. It is the first book by this author for me as well. As I said, I usually avoid these types of stories, but this one caught me and kept me interested and rooting for the characters to find their way. More than worth your time and the listen.

    "This book!"

First off the male narrator wasn’t my favorite. I liked his voice but he read each line a little weird... BUT... after the first few minutes I didn’t care. The female narrator was amazing, I oddly liked her Jude voice better. The story is unbelievably good, the character depth is greater than the first book and drew me in. Some of the twists weren’t so complicated that I didn’t see them coming but the entire story was satisfying. The writer went really in-depth with the addiction and recovery aspect and it only dragged me into it deeper. I really loved this book.

    "This is a tough one..."

I really enjoyed the story. I feel like I saw a small glimpse into the life of an addict. It was definitely pulled at the heartstrings. I laughed out loud a few times and shed a few tears. It was a well rounded love story.

The part I had issue was with the narration...

Seraphine Valentine was excellent. 5 stars

Jeffrey Kafer- 2.5. His cadence was awkward....sort of this monotone for a bit then his voice would drop lower and finish a sentence. I had a super difficult time even starting the audio. Knowing there was a different narrator for the next helped me get through it. As the book went on, it was less dramatic and a bit easier to deal, but then there were these places where the audio would change and get louder then softer (maybe the editing?). His voice overall would be great, if he read more "normally" ?

    "Romeo and Juliet type story"

Jude and Sophie were young lovers from different sides of the track who met in high school. Sophie was what everyone considered, the "Good Girl". Jude was the sexy tattooed slacker, then junkie. When he turned his attentions to her, Sophie fell hard. Sophie's father, the Chief of Police, in their small town in Vermont, forbade her from seeing Jude. But that didn't stop the young lovers.

What stopped them was Judes demons, which caused the death of Sophie's "Golden Boy" brother... Or so we think.

It's been three years since Jude went to prison for manslaughter, a drug related accident that resulted in Sophie's brother's death. But there are things missing from the story that Sophie hasn't gotten the answers. So when Jude returns to town 6 months after his release from prison, Sophie's questions become all she can think about. She has to know what really happened and why that night not only tore Jude away from her, but changed her parents for the worse. Her mother is a walking zombie and her father is verbally and physically controlling.

The closer Sophie gets to the truth, the more abusive her father becomes until things come to a head. Sophie and Jude have to decide if the past will rule their lives or will they be able to find the truth and come out the other side together like they've always wanted.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series and was very curious about Jude's story from then. Mostly because he's so quite and reserved, but seemed like a good guy who was beating himself up almost more than the penal system could for what had happened and the tragedy he'd caused. This one was almost as good as the first book in the series. I just felt it dragged a little in places. Probably because I really wanted to now what happened and what Sophie's father was going to do the keep the truth from coming out.

I really want to know May's story and definitely interested in Zachariah's.

    "A+ rating..."

    My Review:
    Overall: 4.75
    Performance: 4.5
    Story: 4.75
I have so, so much love for this story. I adore second chance at love stories, but with the details of Jude's backstory, this romance was just so much more. More emotionally involved, more heartbreaking, and so much more romantic as the story evolved. I ADORED this book.

Jude has spent the last three years in jail for driving while under the influence...something that resulted in killing his passenger and him going to jail for manslaughter. Now he's out, trying to recover from heroine addiction, and trying to rebuild his life in the same town where his entire world collapsed. He never expected Sophie to still be there. Three years ago, she was supposed to be off forgetting him and chasing her dreams. But the events in his life had long-lasting repercussions for Sophie, too.

Because Sophie's brother was the passenger, and her mother never recovered from the loss. So now she's still living at home, taking care of her mother, and surviving the ongoing bullying from her sheriff father. It's an awful existence. I'm not sure who truly had it worse...Jude in prison, or Sophie with her father.

To say Jude was railroaded when the accident happened is putting it mildly, and Sophie's father isn't happy to have Jude back in town and in the sphere of her daughter anymore. (I really, really hated this man...he is EVIL.) But despite that Jude and Sophie begin to find their way to one another again. There are so many roadblocks for them, but that's what made this book so darn good. There's so much build-up and suspense to how and when they will give into their attraction and chemistry.

This book was fantastic. I highly, highly, highly recommend it. If you like second chance at love stories, it's a perfect one. This isn't a story about two people who had a fight and broke up. It's about so much more and it's the constant fight for the two of them to find their way back to one another, for Jude to stay clean, and for them both to realize where they need to be in this new reality. I loved the book!

Note: This entire series is phenomenal and I highly recommend all three books, but you can easily read any of them as stand-alones.

    "Great book, second in series!"

I really enjoyed the continuation of the characters in this story and will move directly to the 3rd book next. This author is very descriptive and certianly exercises my imagination! The narration was good, I enjoyed this pair for this couple! The first book was definately best but the 2nd did not dissapoint and certianly set me up and lured me in for the next, it also made me feel much more sympathetic to addiction where as I had zero thoughts about it prior to reading this book. I was just indifferent. This author certianly has the power to make me consider an issue with a different perspective now, while enjoying a romance, so good job Bowen, I see what you did there.

    "great story, good female narrator"

I enjoyed the story and the series, however I enjoyed the male narrator for the first book way more than Jude's narrator in this book. It sounded like Jude's narrator was trying to read his roll ironically. The narrator for Sophie was amazing. I've been brought in to the heartfelt story of this family and their loves and I enjoy the storylines.
