Summary

A man hiding from his past and a woman running from hers.

Two people from different worlds who know one another only from what they have shared in Facebook messages. They've never heard the other's voice, or seen a photo.

Analise Becke writes romance with western heroes, men she has dreamed up by combining the looks of her favorite western actor with the qualities she discovers in her online chats with the Texas rancher, Riley Morgan. She's cooked up more than a few fantasies about Riley over the last year, but knows them for what they are - fantasies of a lonely woman whose marriage is falling apart.

Riley looks forward to the online chats more than he is willing to admit but has never considered asking what she looks like. She's just an online friend. Yeah, they have a connection, but certainly not enough to even consider that a face-to-face meeting will spark anything other than a solidification of their friendship.

Riley Morgan and Analise Becke are in for a big surprise - actually a series of surprises. Their lives are about to be turned upside down as passion and danger come to Cotton Creek, Texas.

And they say nothing ever happens in Cotton Creek.

Southern Comfort

What made the experience of listening to Southern Comfort the most enjoyable?

I loved the story, the characters, the fun and the romance as the two come together. It was great to see an older couple find the happily ever after, from their past unsettled lives. A very sweet love story.

Not your typical cowboy romance!

I thought I was going into a Cowboy Romance and was surprised that this book had a twist of the abnormal kind. I enjoyed the story line but that twist didn't really fit in to the story. It wasn't really explained well. I also enjoyed the characters but this book was average to me. I do not mean that as a bad thing, I just mean that nothing really stood out to make this book better than all the others just like it. Kind of a cozy read. I will continue with the series.

The best part of this audiobook was the narration. His voice fit perfect for this story.

More adult-mature adult romanc

I very much enjoyed. There was more than just sex. There was a story, a life, a connection. Ana and Riley were a perfect fit. Riley's other life threw Ana fir a loop but she was resilient. Ana's life was way more complicated than she even knew.

Secondary characters and the storyline made for a good read. I love adult romance. This one came at a different direction.

J Scott Bennett did his job well. I knew women were women and the men had their own voice.

Not bad for the first in a series.

The story was pretty good, however, it did have a couple of 'what the heck' moments, but nothing too bad. I enjoy cowboy romance novels, and this one was just that. It is set in modern times, not the old west, though, which is not a problem for me, just noting that for information. I will mention that I have listened to all four books in this series, and the writing improves as the series goes on. I don't mean that it is bad, just a little shaky in the first book. The characters are all likable, people you could imagine being friends with, and I love that it is a stand-alone book, even though it is part of a series. I just hate cliffhangers, and absolutely refuse to buy another book just to learn what happens in what is actually an incomplete book. I did enjoy the story, and the narrator is great with an excellent voice for cowboys! Oh, and I received this audio book free or at a reduced price in exchange for an honest review.

Southern Comfort

Where does Southern Comfort rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One of the best I have listened to.J. Scott Bennett does a wonderful job narrating and transporting you to the places the book takes place in. You could feel you were in the south by the way he narrated the different residents of Cotton Creek, and you could tell you where back in the big city by the different conversation flow. The narration was engaging to the point I didn't want to stop listening to the audiobook.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Southern Comfort?

I enjoyed Analise's character the most.I love books that show strong woman. In Southern Comfort I got that and Scott's narration enhanced the story even more. Not many male narrators do justice to female characters, but Scott managed to convey Analise's strength in the face of so many troublous in her life. She never came across as whiny or immature. She faced problems head on, when things started happening she did all the right things to protect herself and her son. She was a mature character who made mature decisions. I loved seeing her grow, go on with her life, take a second chance with love and finding her HEA.And I enjoyed her reaction after discovering who Riley really is (or was in a different life)

Have you listened to any of J. Scott Bennett’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I haven't listened to Scott's other works, but I will definitely do so in the future.I love books set in a small southern town. Its not easy transporting you there and Scott managed to do that.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There were quite a few:I loved seeing Analise grow as a woman.I loved seeing the female friendships between her and Katie and later on wth Codie.I loved the secondary characters of Codie (I would love to read her story), Boby and Katie.

Great western romance!

--I was given a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Let me start by saying I love Riley. There isn't a bad thing to say about that man...how he could have been married 3 times before, those women must have been stupid to let him get away. This was a feel good romance, has a little suspense in it and was very enjoyable. The characters were interesting, pretty well developed(would have loved a little more evil Gina..she seemed pretty wild) and the plot was good. I especially loved the Joe. I believe we all have guardian angels, and he certainly pulled through at the most opportune time. Annie developed well into her own. I think the break from Rick into the western girl she became was well thought out, bringing out the best qualities in her. Loved the fierce momma bear she was protecting her son.

J Scott Bennett has a great voice for the western romance. His performance was spot on and kept me going!
