Publisher's Summary

Ivy Jeffries falls hopelessly in love with Jonas Armstrong, a man who has forced himself into a somewhat reclusive lifestyle owing to his sordid past. Ivy is elated when he finally lets his guard down and kisses her. She thinks they are now moving forward into a relationship, until he tells her it meant nothing to him. How could a kiss like they shared mean nothing to him, when it meant the world to her? Then she discovers he is pulling away for a reason, to protect her. Is the love they share enough to withstand his past and the child he is protecting?

    "Easy to listen to"

I really enjoyed the storyline, The characters are interesting. Ms Goss did a great job of telling a splendid tale of mystery and intrigue. Tolerance and intolerance, with romance and so much more added to the mix. I would definitely recommend this book.

The narration was excellent really bringing the characters to life, very well done.

    "Wonderful Christian Romance😊"

I enjoy Christian romance novels but I sometimes shy away from them because they can get too "preachy". This author, however, has a wonderful way of showing faith through lessons learned along with a believable heartfelt story and likable characters. A truly sweet journey that no one should miss.💕

The wonderful narration added to the enjoyment of this book. Definitely putting both Author and Narrator on my list of "keepers".

If you're looking for a quality Christian romance, give this Author a try. I was given this book for my unbiased review but would have gladly used a credit. 😀

    "Sweet Romance"

This was my first Christian Historical Romance. Yes all of those lol. And honestly, I enjoyed it. It was good to take a break from my normal listening genre and try something new. So glad I did.

Barb writes a story that has several layers. It is listed as Christian becauae of the references to God, forgiveness and the church. It is just enough not to be overbearing for those who may not be of the faith. The story also deals with race, and acceptance and a few "never saw that coming" moments.

This is a love story and I enjoyed how the characters were developed and how Jonas's and Ivy's relatiinship grew overtime.

Tom Jordan performs this book and as it being his debut did a wonderful job. Great tone, differences in characters were evident, and he has great pacing. I felt the emotions he provided and gave me a deeper understanding of what they were facing. Well done and looking forward to more of his work!

    Story
"Wow... What a wonderfully-warm, fun listen."

This story took me to a simpler time and place and led me on a journey with the two main characters, Jonas and Ivy. So many great lessons in this book, but it presented them without being preachy at all! Great storytelling works on at least two levels - the surface story, and the underlying motivations behind the characters actions - not always easy to portray, but Barbara nails it. You followed their tale and understood why they did the things they did - perfect storytelling.

Tom Jordan's narration was warm, smooth, consistent, and the audio quality was top-notch. What a great voice to listen to for several hours. I can't wait to hear him in her next book.

"One of THE Best Inspirational Romance Westerns"

Shadow of Shame was such a fantastic listen. I'm so glad it's book one in the series. The story was a good solid one with characters I cared about and one not so much. I loved Ivy and Jonas and the other supporting characters were great as well. The little one Zoe was precious. And then there was Boyd the baddie.

Barbara Goss did an excellent job writing this story. It was perfection. I look forward to more in this series. Definitely recommended.

Tom Jordan was the perfect narrator for this story. His tone was even and he had great voice inflections. His character voices were the best. They were just right, not overdone or underdone. Perfectly done. I'll listen to him again.

    "Heartwarming Story of Personal Forgiveness"

At eighteen, Jonas Armstrong commits the biggest mistake of his life. His secret shame haunts him and he locks himself away from society. For five years he throws himself into church and philanthropic work. Although he finally feels like he's received God's forgiveness, he's unable to fully forgive himself.

Ivy Jeffries is the new minister's daughter, and she's drawn to Jonas from the moment she meets him. Unaware of his past she tries to get closer to him, but Jonas keeps her at arm's length. When she finally discovers his secret, Jonas wonders if she'll ever be able to accept him even as a friend.

Each of the author's books have their own Christian message. This one is personal forgiveness. Jonas hasn't allowed himself to move on from his mistakes in the past. The message wasn't heavy handed, and was woven into the story perfectly.

I liked all the characters in this one! Ivy is a strong personality and goes after what she wants, but she's still sweet and not bullheaded. Jonas may have slipped up in the past, but when he's needed he steps up to the plate in a big way. Zoey is an absolutely adorable little girl, and she lights up the page whenever she appears.

Tom Jordan was a great narrator, I was surprised to see this was his first audiobook on Audible. It was professionally done with perfect pace and timing. He didn't dramatically overact, and his character's voices were distinct and recognizable.

I received a copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

    Story
"Great Start to a new series!"

Jonas is a man who's past is still defining his present life even though he has been forgiven and has turned his life around. He does not feel worthy of receiving love and so when the new preacher's daughter shows interest in him, Jonas must fight his attraction for her in order to keep her from the shame that he still feels.

Ivy only sees the man that Jonas is, not who he was and desires to show him how valuable he is as a man and as a friend. Her friendship feelings quickly turn to love and even when Ivy is confronted with the consequences of Jonas' past, she accepts them and is bound and determined to show him who he is through her eyes.

Can Jonas come to see that he is worthy Ivy's love and can Ivy help Jonas accept that he is no longer the stupid teen that he once was, but a man who has learned and grown from his past?

This is one of my favorite books of Barb's. Once again, Barb writes a beautiful story of faith and love in this first of several books. I look forward to more of the Shadow series. Tom Jordan is a new narrator for me and I am glad to have found him. He brings the story to life and lets the listener get lost in the story! I am looking forward to more books by Tom!
