Summary

From USA Today best-selling author Kathy Coopmans comes the first book in a series of standalones, the Saints series.

She told me Heaven would knock on my door one day. That I would be swept away from the hell I lived in.

She was right about one thing and so wrong about the other.

Heaven came in the form of an angel just like she said. Beautiful. Perfect. An angel.

And then. My life became hell.

She disappeared. Vanished. I left. Went to war. Killed. All for her.

Every face was the man who took her. Every dream filled with her.

For 12 years, I existed in hell. Breathed in the fires from down below.

Until her, the woman on the beach outside of my home. Captivating. Enchanting. Mesmerizing.

It couldn't be my Cora, my angel, my Heaven on Earth. She was dead. Wasn't she?

Sweet, sultry and thoroughly enjoyable!

Riddick and Cora's story is a strong start to this trilogy. This is a story about second chances, forgiveness and love. It also has darker elements that balance against the sweeter parts of the plot.

Cora and Riddick are soulmates who were forcefully separated thanks to Cora's brother. To compound the matter, they were made to assume the other had died.

Fast forward over a decade later. Riddick and his two friends have completed their highly decorated military careers and are now in the narcotics division of the Santa Barbara police force. After an extended time away, Riddick comes home to a new neighbour. Cora. And her 11 year old son, Ethan. Riddick's son.

I like how the characters are strong and vulnerable. The men are all alphas but the women are just as capable. There is an emphasis on the emotional connection and communication between the characters, especially the men. And there is a maturity that allows them to transcend beyond the nitty gritty, the anger and the confusion to focus on the heart of the situation.

Kelley Hazen has a dynamic way of bringing the story life. She has an enjoyable and entertaining way of narrating that makes the listening experience enjoyable.
