Publisher's Summary

Of all the dukes in England, Jered Marcus Benton, the Duke of Bradford, was the wealthiest, most handsome - and most arrogant. And of all London’s ladies, he wanted the tender obedience of only one: Caroline Richmond.

She was a ravishing beauty from Boston, with a mysterious past and a fiery spirit. Drawn to the powerful duke, undeterred by his presumptuous airs, Caroline was determined to win his lasting love. But Bradford would bend to no woman - until a deadly intrigue drew them enticingly close. Now, united against a common enemy, they would discover the power of the magnificent attraction that brought them together…a desire born in danger, but destined to flame into love!

"I really didn't enjoy this book."

I have read a number of Ms. Garwood's books and really enjoyed them. This one was not very good in my opinion.
The heroine was said to be strong but her behaviour seemed weak and needy. The hero was a harsh bully. I cringed through many of the exchanges. I will not read this again; it insults my sensitivities as a woman.

    "Skip This For Something Better"
What would have made Rebellious Desire better?

An actual story with characters you can get into.

What was most disappointing about Julie Garwood’s story?

I didn't think there was one. By the time this book ended, I felt shocked and amazed. Shocked because nothing really ever happened and the end just snuck up on me, and then amazed at how I could ever be shocked by such a thing because the book was as long as it was without a plot. All very mysterious really.

Would you be willing to try another one of Anne Flosnik’s performances?

Only if I really wanted to hear the book. I can handle a lot of subpar narration, but Anne Flosnik really is tough to take. Her cadence is so off-putting that it's hard to stay focused when she's the narrator. At this point, I dread when I am about to listen to a book that she narrates.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

    Not really.

    Any additional comments?

The main characters were't impressive either. The male lead was just a domineering, arrogant bully that was supposed to be enticing but wasn't. The book tried to pass off the female lead as the strong, resilient type, but nope, that didn't work either. This book felt like how you feel after a bad date: You want to convince yourself that it was worth it to go out and give it a try, but knowing how it all ended, it really wasn't worth it at all.

    "ok"

I finally bought this audio book . Wondering why I hadn't bought it sooner. I read it a long time ago. It was the narrator Anne Flosnik. She isn't my favorite. Half the time her characters voices are whiny and nasally. Unfortunately she narrates quite a few of Julie Garwood's books. With that said, "Rebellious Desire" is a historical romance set in England . The Duke of Bradford is a jerk with LOTS of trust issues and ALL women want 2 things. At first Caroline shows to be a strong and gentle women and then she meets Bradford. Her cousin Charity is a too talkative ding-bat.I wanted to tell her to shut up several times. There's lots of dialogue and laugh out loud moments in this audio. IMO this isn't one of Julie Garwood's better books. I probably will not listen to again . 😔

    "Wonderful beginning"
    Any additional comments?

The beginning where the H and H meet is very funny. The plot is interesting. It is a good book, but not great. Julie Garwood has written some books that are much better (Honor's Splendor, The Gift, The Bride). I like Anne Flosnik as a narrator. I don't understand the problem some of the reviewers have with her, but everyone has different taste.

    "Great book"

I love Julie Garwood's books. This one is my least favorite yet is still delicious. It is also mainly a romance but does have a bit of mystery in the story. Highly recommended.

It's hard to believe that I've found a Julie Garwood HR that I didn't abso-freaking-lutely love. I liked it okay, but...it all boils down to Bradford. He was a giant douche. The end.

    "No hero! A creepy abuser."

I am not a one to avoid dark topics and understand that different times have had different standards but I could not finish this book. The hero's obsession with control and manipulation of the heroine was extremely disturbing because it was written as if it were love. I don't care what excuse he used, he was an accomplished abuser.
