Publisher's Summary

The second volume in the Captive Prince trilogy.

With their countries on the brink of war, Damen and his new master, Prince Laurent, must exchange the intrigues of the palace for the sweeping might of the battlefield as they travel to the border to avert a lethal plot.

Forced to hide his identity, Damen finds himself increasingly drawn to the dangerous, charismatic Laurent. But as the fledgling trust between the two men deepens, the truth of secrets from both their pasts is poised to deal them the crowning death blow.

    Story
    "Recommended"

It kept the tension higher than most middle books. I liked that the erotica didn't take over the plot as much as it did in the first book. The plot became the more interesting part of the story. The characters became more rounded and thus more intriguing.

    Story
"great story and characters; so so narration"
What made the experience of listening to Prince's Gambit the most enjoyable?

I'd already read this series before deciding to try the audiobook versions, and this is my favorite book in the series. It's full of political intrigue and many layered, complex characters. The story held up the second time around.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

The narrator could have done a better job distinguishing between the characters. Also, mich of his reading stripped the dialogue of complexities and nuances that are important to the story. (Example, Lazar's "alright you're not f***ing him" which was clearly meant sarcastically was, in the narrator's reading, just a good-natured agreement.) And while I thought the narrator did a good job of capturing Laurent, I hated the way he read Damen. I was glad I'd already read the book. I don't think I would have enjoyed the audiobook otherwise.

    Any additional comments?

If you're interested in this series, I recommend buying the books instead of the audiobooks.
