Publisher's Summary

New York Times bestselling author Catherine Bybee delivers the fifth heartwarming, flirty novel in the wildly popular Not Quite series.

Mary Kildare knows how to read people. It's both why she makes a great therapist and why she refuses to trust the average bachelor. Staying fiercely independent has been her primary relationship strategy - until wealthy playboy pilot (and commitmentphobe) Glen Fairchild reappears in her life. After a yearlong teasing tug-of-war, Mary and Glen test the waters of attraction, only to find that their physical chemistry runs deeper than flirtation.

At first, a bicoastal romance suits them both - especially since Glen can swoop in and whisk Mary away on one of his company's planes. But no matter how close they get, they're still three thousand miles apart. And when Mary's life is threatened, Glen realizes the one luxury he doesn't have is time. Can he close the distance between them before it's too late?

    "Decent romance, but nothing memorable"

“Mary” and “Glen”?! Seriously, these are NOT good names for a couple in a romance - unless they are both 90 years old and celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. So please, Ms Bybee, think twice next time about the names you give your characters!

I love books by Catherine Bybee but this one was a little disappointing. It featured a great couple, and the sort of romance we would all love to have, but unfortunately this doesn’t make the most enthralling reading. The couple had met occasionally over the past year before the book started, and were obviously attracted to each other, and both were upfront and realistic about the difficulties their relationship faced. I couldn’t understand why the h was portrayed as an abandoned baby growing up in foster care without family, when it turns out she actually had a strong mother figure who had always been a big part of her life, and still was. The commitment issues, and “player” reputation of the H also didn’t have any logical source apart from being a convenient plot device to explain why the h initially was hesitant about getting involved with him.

That said, I did enjoy the book, just nothing about it was memorable, or made be put it into the “listen to again” pile.

    "Couldn't ask for more"

I laughed and cried and finished with a happy sigh! Mary Francis had me in stitches. Glen panicking from miles away had my heart rate up. Great book, well narrated and a good lesson too because call me paranoid, but I could not understand how she blithely shared so many details of her life with people she hardly knew. Be open and friendly but be safe. No one needs to know when your bf is out of town for the wknd.

    "Great book and awesome narration.."

This was very good. I’ve read about 20 of Catherine Bybee's books and I’ve really liked all her series’. I especially liked the Weekday Brides.

This was the story about Mary and “player” Glen who dated while he lived in the east coast and Mary lived on the west. Glen was filthy rich, had his own charter planes and was a pilot, so he flew to her or flew her to him. I, for one, love books about the rich and the crazy ways they spend money. TOTALLY the opposite of how I live so that makes it all the better. Also, I love that Ms. Bybee’s heroes and heroines are both beautiful, instead of making the heroine too plain or too plump and pairing her with a god-like hero. That’s the main reason I’ve read so many of her books.

The incredible love that grew between Glen and Mary was amazing AND the last 30% of the book was very exciting. The bad guy took Mary hostage and when Mary got him talking I couldn’t help but feel sorry for him. He had a sad backstory.

I also loved the other players: Walt and Dakota, Monica and Trent, Mary Frances, and Jason.

There was passion and explicit sex in this book and the F-bomb was used 13 times.

As to the narration: Love, love, love Amy McFadden. Great voices and awesome emotions.

Another great book in the Not Quite series.
Some great romance, a little bit of thriller tension, and a whole lot of personal growth.
    Very well done.

    "HMM.. Okay story, okay narration."

Well this book was just okay. Not my favorite in this series by far. It was just kind of meh.. Nothing exciting, no real mystery. It was just a basic romance. I liked Mary well enough. However, she could have had a much better back story, or a back story period. I mean she was abandoned after all. Missed some potential good elements there. The "mystery" was no real mystery at all. Had that figured out in a split second. I liked Glen, rich, handsome and nice. No real depth though.

The story line and plot were meh. Nothing great, nothing bad. There was lots of dialogue throughout the entire book which was great. I love lots of dialogue, so there is that.

As for the narration. I do like Amy McFadden for the most part, however she really needs to work on her men's voices. She does read with emotion, and her reading voice is nice. Just work on those men's voices a bit and it would be great.

"Great Story - Very Difficult to Listen to."
What did you love best about Not Quite Perfect?

The story was good but fairly easy to figure out who was causing the problem. I'm a sap for romance books and I enjoy Catherine Bybee.

Would you be willing to try another one of Amy McFadden’s performances?

    Not really.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I listen while driving which makes the long trip to work, in traffic easier to deal with.
