Summary

Dora and her old enemy Lucy are paired up on the children's ward for the final three months of their training. The two nurses couldn't seem more different, but they may have more in common than they think, as each hides a secret heartache. And there are new faces. Jess is the feisty eldest daughter of a notorious East End family and determined to prove herself as a ward maid. New trainee nurse Effie can't wait to escape her small Irish village, and make her way as a nurse in London. But Effie's sister Katie soon begins to worry that Effie's behaviour is out of control. Nightingales on call and in crisis: have they got what it takes?

Just as great as the other Nightingale books

Just totally brilliant!
lovely story following the girls at the nightingale hospital. So pleased Dora was still in the story, as I love her character. Along with a few new ones.
wonderfully narrated too. Each character brought to life as it was read.
highly recommended read. especially if you enjoy hospital dramas from a bygone era.
Hard to put down once started.

The brilliant narrator.

The way the narrator had a different voice for each character. That way I knew who was who.

enjoyable. well read

really enjoyed the book, very easy reading/ listening.
its a shame some of the previous characters were only mentioned a few times in this one rather than finishing their own stories off. with several new charactes taking center stage alot and some previous sub characters getting more storylines. I am glad at least doras story was still a main focus even if helen and millie almost disappeared.

great

we've been listening to the story of the nightingale and have totally loved both books so far. the story is very well written and read with enthusiasm that gets you hooked into the story. you can even imagine your self there with the girls. it's so well written that it's easy to follow and a great way to while away hours and hours of driving on long journeys
we can't wait to start number 3.

My review

I love the Nightingale Books. I've just finished the fourth book. I really like how they follow on. Some characters going and others returning. I think they are read very well also. Have recommended them to my friends. Thank you Donna, keep at it.

Loving this series

I love losing myself in the Nightingale nurse stories. The characters are so engaging and the narration is so animated. I feel sad when the story ends.
Looking forward to the next one already

Great story & excellent narration

I've listened to all the nightingale stories and found each one to be just as great as the last. I can't wait for the next release.

I love listening to Penelope Freeman. She's so versatile in adapting her accent and tone to present different characters.

Probably an ideal read for East Enders fans

I have read or listened to all the books to date and will stop now as I find them harrowing. In this Covid age I need to find a fun book as these books are more full of problems nastiness and bad feeling than good things - rather like my impression of East Enders on telly. When ever it has appeared briefly on my screen there is always argument or bad feeling.
I did my SRN training in the 1960's and had expected more about the wards than the nurses social lives. Thankfully also our Sisters were less nasty. We had a good time on the whole.
I think this book ends one theme and although some of what we have had already will carry on, I shall give it a miss for the foreseeable future.
