Summary
Kendall McKenzie has vowed never to get married. She’s seen too many people give up their dreams for love and is determined that’s never going to happen to her. Travelling the world teaching English, Kendall dreams of turning her jewellery-making hobby into a proper business one day.
‘No commitment’ is high-flying businessman Jake Newman’s motto. He’s never met anyone he wants to settle down with, and that’s the way he likes it. But when Kendall and Jake meet, sparks fly. It's obvious to everyone except themselves that they're meant to be together.
Will their fear of commitment prevent them from admitting their love for each other? And if they do, will Kendall have to give up her dream?

Very little in the way of a storyline
I wish I had read the reviews before I decided to listen to this audiobook.
I'm sad to say that I didn't like this book at all but I stuck it out to the end just to see how bad it got. Thankfully it's a short book.
There was so little storyline here and so little description of anything. The book tells you that the characters visit an area but then it would just skip to them leaving again and just tell you they had a lovely day.
Never before have I listened to or read a book where I didn't want the main 'love interest' character to get together but this book was different. The male character, Jake is so possessive of Kendall even before they're an item. He even gets shirty when she doesn't answer her phone because she's out of signal. Okay, it is just a book but alarm bells were ringing for me very early on. She should have kicked him to the kerb before anything even started between them. Jake's behaviour in this book is appalling and yet Kendall just forgives him because he tells her he loves her ( even though they only met each other a few weeks ago and haven't seen each other for half of that time.
To me, this is not a feel good story at all. I'm half expecting there to be a sequel with a domestic abuse storyline.

Read like an 80s Mills & boon
I couldn't get over the "little women as objects" side of the narrative. I gave up listening before the end.

Like listening to the queen
Got to chapter 4 and couldn’t take anymore of the cold clipped narrator voice with no emotion or intonation.

Jolly little story
Like the story but lots of repeated waffle over their feelings. The recording was very poor. At full volume it was quiet and frequently went even more quiet.

Tell don’t show
This was a classic ‘tell don’t show’ story. Literally every important plot point happened off screen, the majority of the book we are in the character head, as in we see their thoughts and they go on and on and on.
It’s quite a talent to write in such a way that no emotional connection to the characters can be established.
And when they finally tell eachother they love eachother, it just falls flat and boring.
What a waste of my time

Lovely story
Whilst the storyline was a little predictable, it kept my interest and was a great holiday read.

A 3 Star🌟🌟🌟 Listen
Honestly, this book was short and sweet! I really enjoyed listening to my first novel by Karen King.
This listen was light hearted and Chicklit which is what I like 👍
The narrator was a bit posh for the characters although she voiced them really well.
Yes I recommend this book
