Summary

It's 1884, and 14-year-old Sunday Small has been in the Nuneaton workhouse since she was abandoned at birth. The regime is cruel, and if it were not for her dear little friend Daisy, Sunday's life would barely be worth living. And now she's attracted the unwelcome attention of the seedy workhouse master, who will stop at nothing to get her alone. It's time for Sunday to strike out alone in the world, but the brutal world of the workhouse will not let her go without a fight....

Amazing and heartwarming.

This was a wonderful story, it is the first book I have ever read by this author, however after reading this I will be reading more without a doubt. The story although really sad in parts was really uplifting, although I knew some of what was going to come out during the story from the start it did not take away my enjoyment of the book in anyway. Sunday was a lovely character and very well developed, she had really good spirit no matter what was thrown at her and was very strong willed. There were some very emotional scenes in the book but the one that probably tour at my heart the most was when Lavinia spoke to baby Steven while trying to help him fight for his life. A fantastic author who I would highly recommend. The book was based in the midlands, Charlie Sanderson did a very good job with the accents and as she was quite young sounding and the main character was a young girl I thought she was the write choice of reader for this book. Looking forward to getting more by this author in the future.

Really enjoyed this book. Lovely story. narrator is brilliant. Read with true feeling and you could really get into the story with the different voices of all the characters. Thank you.

A truly heart warming listen

Despite the story being a little predictable in places, this was a huge joy to listen to. The narration was first class, I will be finding more books narrated by her. Highly recommended escapism.

Absolutely stunning book

What amazing story from beginning to end.
Very sad how her life began and the struggles that she went through, but I will not say anymore, just in case that the viewers need to read or listen to the book. It’s absolutely amazing. Thank you to the author for writing this absolutely stunning book.
The performance by Charlie Sanderson was amazing, lovely and clear. I’ll give the book 10 out of 10.
