Publisher's Summary

Hands down, my favorite thing in the world is to score. Touchdowns. Don't let the fact that I'm the leading pick in the Most Valuable Playboy charity auction fool you. These days, I'm only a player on the field. I've kept my pants zipped all season long - and it is long - because nothing's more important than leading my team to victory every week. Except maybe escaping from the team owner's recently widowed and handsy-as-hell sister, who's dead set on winning more than a date with me. Enter Violet and a well-placed Hail Mary. She's my best friend's sister with a smile as sweet as cherry pie, and a mind that runs quicker than the 40-yard-dash.

After Violet saves the day with the highest bid, I don't even give her a two-minute warning before I kiss her in front of the whole crowd, and then announce that she's my girlfriend. Which would be fine, except my agent tells me we've got to keep up the act while he's negotiating my contract. Violet takes one for the team and pretends to be mine, but our boyfriend-girlfriend scrimmage quickly turns into a full contact sport, and I want it to go into overtime. The problem is - I've been riding the bench for years. How can a guy like me, who finally has a chance to prove his worth on the field, convince the girl she's most valuable to his heart?

"A completely feel good friends to lovers"

An honest to goodness, feel good, happy go lucky romance told from the hot sexy NFL quarterback’s viewpoint, and guess what? Cooper Armstrong might be a player on the football field but he's definitely not a player when it comes to girls, in fact he's quite the opposite, he's agreed to keep his snake in his pants for the whole season. Violet Pierson is not only his best friend, she's also his best friend’s sister, totally off limits. When they agree to have a fake relationship guaranteed to benefit both of them, they get more than they bargained for. A completely enjoyable feel good friends to lovers romance with wonderful characters, some sexy moments and a good few laughs. Zachery Webber nailed it as Cooper.

    "OMG! Another amazing story!"

I loved this story. I think it's my favourite so far that I had the pleasure to listen to. Zachary Webber killed it with this narration. It was just perfect. And the best part is that the story is told from Male POV which I am fan off lately.

I love friends to lovers books but they can be a bit cliche, but here Lauren avoided it perfectly. Love love love it!

Can I get my own Cooper please?

    Any additional comments?

Another great read by Me Blakely.

Only one POV in this one, and it is read by the always fabulous Zachary Webber.

I thought I would have like to have heard the POV from the other MC Violet, but actually it really works well not having it.

Also glad that Cooper wasn't a douche.

I love friends to lovers stories, and this one hits all of the right buttons.

"Zachary & Lauren are a winning team!"

I wasn't expecting Cooper to be as great a guy as he was, maybe because of the reputation / or the title he had been given, but I fell in love with him ( I should never have doubted).
More importantly, and with all of Lauren's books, I also fall in love with the female lead-in this case Violet. She was the supporting lead who shone, got her character and personality across even though the story is told through Cooper's voice.

Sports romances are not my go to reads, I do tend to shy away from them, especially when I know little or nothing about the sport as in this case, but it isn't all about the game, and what is about the game and the team is enough for anyone to follow along.

Great chemistry, characters and having read the book and listened on audible, I can say Zachary Webber is an absolute dream as Cooper! The perfect laid back attitude, I expected, as always, he really brought the characters to life and was the perfect fit for this particular character.

    "A sporty friends to lovers"

    4.5 stars

MOST VALUABLE PLAYBOY was fun from beginning to end. A slower burn heat was the theme in this sports-orientated friends to lovers story. What started as a pretend girlfriend situation developed into the sweetest journey to something deeper. Of course, this is not a new trope, it's something I've read similar types of books before, but I can honestly say I was thrilled as the hours ticked by on this audio.

The title made me think I'd be encountering a jerk, but Cooper was far from this. He was a guy who was focused on becoming an indispensable quarterback to his team. Cooper turned to Violet to get out of a tight corner but their close quarters revealed Vi in a new light. The chemistry builds more gradually than some of Lauren Blakely's quick, hot reads and I loved that aspect of bubbling feelings and gradual touches. The friendship between these two shone beautifully and Violet was very likeable.

The narration, single male POV, hit every button for me. Zachery Webber did a fantastic job on bringing Cooper and the story to life. Although it was single POV, he naturally worked the dialogue and Vi's dialogue into the story seamlessly. Highly recommended for a quick, hot read with nice depth.

A copy of this audiobook was provided by the author in return for a honest review.

    "Fun listen"

This book had such funny and fun parts to it. I think the auction scene might have been my favorite. Zachery really pulled the funny out of that scene. The characters were likable. It was just a really easy and entertaining listen. I found Cooper to be adorably clueless when it came to his own feelings about Violet. I mean, how could he have such feelings for her and be so clueless about it!? Men! But, he was so super sweet and down to earth. And I really like Violet's character as well. Full of some laugh out loud moments, this is a quick and easy fun listen.

While I am also a Sebastian York fan, I also like variety. I thought Zachery Webber did great! And, I hope we can continue to enjoy both of their wonderful narrations. There's room in my earbuds for both.

    "Yawn"

This book was so boring I couldn’t make it past the 3 hour mark. The plot was predictable and slow going. The writing was mediocre. It seemed like Lauren wanted the readers to hear every thought that goes through a man’s head throughout the day. The story could have been great, but the execution was horrible. It took me 3 days to get through 3 hours. I’ve heard this narrator on other audiobooks, but he did not carry this book well on his own. I have enjoyed other books by Lauren Blakely, but this one missed the mark for me.

"This is one player I would love to meet"

As football season kicks off, I have to say I loved Cooper and Violet's story. Lauren Blakely has an incredible ability to get into the inner-workings of a male's mind. She completely has perfected this in her story Most Valuable Playboy. It is a fantastic read that is filled with humor and combustible chemistry, with just the perfect amount of angst. I could not get enough of this story. When I did have to put it down, it never was far from my mind, as I had to know how it would end.

There are several tropes throughout this story line: best friend's little sister, fake-fiance, and friends to lovers. All of which make for an incredible read. Lauren's ability to create sizzling scenes is like none other. There were many times I laughed out loud as well as felt the exact emotion each character experienced.

Zachary Webber does a fantastic job with the narration of this book. He only enhances Lauren's work as an incredibly talented author. Zachary brings the story to life and kept me completely engaged. I can't wait to hear more from both of these artists in the future!

    "a hot, feel-good romance"

Quarterback Cooper Armstrong is finally playing again, and his team is experiencing a winning season. The Gods are good. Now if he can renew his contract all will be perfect. When he is spotted with his best friend's sister at a charity event, it becomes the talk of the town, and the team's owner is pleased. This results in the two of them entering into a fake relationship but whose faking what?

Gads I love Cooper. The man is cocky, sexy and just a tad adorkable. Seriously he is dreamy. Violet Pierson has known Cooper since the second grade and has been crushing on him ever since. Only she is Trent' little sister, and he's never looked at her twice. I loved the banter and chemistry between these two. It is obvious they know and like each other, and despite Cooper's initial declarations, it soon becomes clear he is in over his head.

It was such a hoot seeing these two kiss for the crowd and getting their reactions. Blakely slowly builds up the sexual tension before turning up the heat. It felt fresh, hot and delicious with a touch of sweet that curled my toes.

Aside from the romance, we get a little Football. We meet the team, see their rituals, enjoy their comradery and become caught up in the game. Secondary characters, Violet's hairdressing business, and friends balance out the tale and make us feel apart of their circle.

Zackery Webb narrators and the man's voice is sexy delivering the cocky and adorable sides of Cooper. His females voices are believable, and I quickly become immersed in the tale.

I fell in love with these characters and became caught up in their romance. When they come together, it's explosive when they realize there is something more it's beautiful. Blakely gives us a heartwarming, sometimes sappy, always sexy story that left me grinning.

I can always count on LB books for my road trips. I really enjoyed because I'm a softy when it comes to childhood friends. This had humor, steam, alpha & really no drama. Narrator was good but I wished there was a female narrator. Yes worth my credit.

    "Friends to lovers story 💏"

Cooper is ready to be auctioned off to help raise money for charity until the woman placing the highest bid is the owner of his team's sister, Maxine. As Cooper tries to figure out how to escape this situation because Maxine could affect whether he is traded... Cooper's best friends little sister Violet, starts bidding to save him.
And just to keep Maxine at bay, Cooper announces that Violet is his girlfriend. Afterwards Cooper wants Violet to keep "pretending" to help his football contract re-negotiations.Violet also wants to keep up the charade to benefit her salon.

With both of them thinking the other has no real feelings or attraction to the other, they're sure to pull this charade off 😄
Plus Cooper has a superstition about abstaining from sex to win the Supper Bowl. That should be enough to keep things platonic right? These two fight the inevitable until a heated kiss sends sparks flying and puts Cooper's vow of chastity in jeopardy.

This fake romance gets really hot and sexy as the two play along. Lauren Blakely really knows how to do steamy with a happy ending 😍
And when it comes to narration.. Only the best will do on a Blakely book!! Zachary Webber's performance is seductive music to my ears. So if you're wondering if this 5 star💫 romance was worth the credit?? Ohh yeah, it was..

    "Another winner!"

I just adore Lauren Blakely’s books! This audiobook was about a NFL football quarterback following a superstition with his fellow players. He vowed “no sex” until they secured a spot in the playoffs. Attending a charity event for the local children’s hospital he’s to be one of the players auctioned in a bachelor auction. Unfortunately, the team owners daughter (a barracuda!) is going to be bidding on him and will be expecting more than just a date, which would jinx their season. So he makes a deal with the sister of his best friend to bid on him and win (he will supply the money). After she wins the auction, the newswoman covering the auction makes the assumption that they were already a couple, so they just kiss and smile. This sets off a lot of lying and dating they hadn’t planned on and before you know it he starts to see her as more than a fake girlfriend. Narration was excellent.

This is my 2nd book narrated by Zachary Webber. Now I need to look up every book he's done. Right up there as one of my favorite narrators now.

    "Touchdown! All the way!"

Lauren Blakely does romantic swoon-worthy books so well! This book was just as amazing. Most Valuable Playboy was a great maze of pretending within the act of pretending. Violet was Cooper’s friend of 20 + years and his BEST friend’s little sister. The book starts with a football charity auction to raise money for the hospital. While in the middle of the auction someone unwanted and unexpected bids on Cooper. Violet sees him floundering and saves the day by bidding on him (with his own money). When she comes to the stage to save the day…they are forced to kiss in front of room full of people (including Violet’s brother and a TV cable crew airing for millions). They make up a fake story about taking their hidden relationship public and the unwanted attention goes away for Cooper. The next day – Cooper and Violet find that their fake romance must continue for mutually beneficial business reasons. Only problem is – while in the mist of being fake – Cooper starts to see Violet in a whole new light. Not only as a friend and his BFF’s little sister but as someone that he can be with all the time. It is fun to watch him put on this act for the world all the while – we (the readers) know he’s not acting at all. Throughout the book we get the falling in love feeling that Lauren portrays so well. All the romantic gesture, swoon-worthy gifts, words and pop-up visits. I smiled like a loon throughout most of the book.
Of course there were some “stuff hits the fan” scenes but it just makes riding this roller coaster all the better. It’s a MUST MUST read.

    "Flawless narration. Flawless storytelling."
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I just did so in an online book discussion group in fact. Even though I'm not a football fan in real life, this sports romance had it elements I love: childhood friends-unexpectedly-turning-lovers, suspense surrounding his future as the team's starting quarter-back versus becoming a free agent and a nice, balanced bit of sexy heat between the main characters.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Most Valuable Playboy?

Their quickie session followed by career changing news for our hero and seemingly crushing news for our heroine.

Have you listened to any of Zachary Webber’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, he's been my favorite male narrator every since I first heard him narrate Elizabeth Hunter's the Irin Chronicles, a paranormal series (angel and nephilim mythology). Since then every novel his has narrated has been a fantastic listening experience for me, and Most Valuable Player was no different.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    Pretending has its rewards.

    Any additional comments?

I zipped through this football romance and was done listening in less than 24 hours. That's rare for me, and I crazy love when that happens! Author Lauren Blakely is one of my top favorite romance authors, and this quick and delightful tale of Cooper and Violet's changing relationship reminded why Lauren still holds that ranking.
