Summary

Fleeing across a roof on a dark night in Victorian London, a thief crashes through a glass skylight to almost certain death. But an ambitious young doctor revives and reconstructs his shattered body, proudly showing off his handiwork at the Scientific Society where the city's intelligentsia meet. It is there that the robber picks up the key to a new existence, and on his release from prison begins to lead a double life.

Great narration, book not for me

Very well read by Stephen Fry.
I really wanted to like this but I simply didn't care that much about the protagonist. The characterization was somewhat shallow. Maybe this is a kids book.
I don't regret buying this, but I can't be bothered with the next book

Captivating!

A wonderful story, narrated by the fabulous Stephen Fry who brings it to life in the way only he can. I downloaded it to listen to in the car with the kids, and every one of us from the age of 6 to 42 loved every second. We didn't wait for the return journey to finish it, and ended up listening to the end in our hotel!

Good listen made nearly irresistible with Stephen Fry as narrator.

Using Stephen Fry's voice as my personal tonic I enjoy anything read by him from Hitchhiker's Guide to Harry Potter, via Short Stories, and his own books to English Delight and Paddington.
However this book has its own dark charm and I very much enjoyed the original ideas as well as the style of writing. Loved to look up some old maps! A bit too clean a getaway in the end, perhaps, but I am sure to listen to the whole story again!

Stephen Fry is wonderful

Stephen Fry did an excellent job reading this story. However, I didnt realise this book was for children. Very amusing in places though and would recommend.

A light fun read

If you enjoy being read to by Stephen Fry you will not be disappointed. Light and Fun this entertaining read is one to enjoy when you are doing a tedious task like the ironing and very safe to listen to with the family around. I will definitely purchase any more Montmorency titles if they become available on Audible if they are read by Stephen Fry.

Fantastic in every way.

What a great story! Heart-warming, witty and clever it works for children from 7-43 (in our house alone) and as for having it narrated by Stephen Fry...an absolute joy to listen to. Thank you.
