Publisher's Summary

As soon they are released, Amanda Quick’s romances shoot to the top of best seller lists. With over 22 million copies of her books in print, she is one of today’s hottest authors. Set in Regency-era England, Mischief offers a sparkling mixture of wit and intrigue that has become Quick’s trademark.

Beautiful, headstrong Imogen Waterstone has recruited the darkly infamous Earl of Colchester to help her seek revenge for the murder of her best friend. As they set a trap for the villain, Imogen and Colchester fearlessly encounter the threats and dangers that come their way. But they are both unprepared for the dizzying passion sparked by their partnership. Amanda Quick’s light, breezy style captures the sophisticated nuances of the 19th century British social world that surrounds these two unconventional allies. Filled with spirited dialogue delivered by the incomparable talent of narrator Barbara Rosenblat, Mischief is a thoroughly delightful adventure.

    Story
    "One of my favorites"

I enjoyed this book of the author's one word title romances better than any of the others. The female protagonist is neither whiny nor stridently bossy. Nor is she stupid. The story also seems to hang together better, more plot driven than characters leaping this way and that to fit a trope.

And, of course, I love Barbara Rosenblat as a narrator. Characters are given distinct voices; she can nuance humor (which seems to be a rare talent in voice people), and her characters sound like people instead of 'characters'. My one, very small, gripe is that she couldn't decide how the main character's name should be pronounced so it came out differently in different parts of the book. At first I thought it might be the characters whose accents, but alas, no.

If you enjoy this sort of mind candy, something that doesn't require your full attention and characters who are probably not going to make you either thump your head against a wall or want to shake them for their stupidity/rudeness/inconsistency, then I suggest this book.

I've listened to it twice, during long car trips, and will probably leave it on my iPod for another one in a year or so.

    "Fun"

Pretty silly, but lots of fun. There's a mystery and characters that the narrator has fun giving life to. She's not at the top of her form, but still perfect for this book. I like humorous light romances with a minimum of angst and no explicit sex. There is some bodice ripping but it doesn't take over the book.

"The story was good, the narration was terrible."

Amanda Quick delivers another entertaining story full of humor, romance, and suspense. The narration took away from this story, the worst I have heard in any audible book.

    Story
    "NOT FOR ME!"

Let me start by saying I have almost all of the Jayne Ann Krentz/Jayne Castle/Amanda Quick books. I enjoy most of her books, but I had to work at finishing this one. Actually, I skipped through a lot of it. The heroine drove me crazy..she's just too stupid to be real. Most of the other characters were just as bad.

    "Had to replace paperbacks--thieving friends"

suspense, murder, artifact, romance, mystery, historical-novel, reread, social-issues

Another one from the prolific Quick that I have reread in print and own in audio.
Yes, it is romantic suspense, has erotica, and the snarks sneak up on you. Publisher's blurb suggests the plot, but there is more fun to it, and the characters do remind me of a few folks that I have worked with. It is a lightweight, fun read with a mere hint of supernatural and a side order of social issues still present today.
Can't go wrong with Barbara Rosenblatt as the audio performer.

This is a great romance but also has a very intriguing mystery. I love all the Amanda Quick books and this one is one of my favorites. Highly recommended.

    "not really a rating"

I cannot rate a book I have not read or listened to. I am glad that it was a 2 for 1 SALE. Unfortunately I have only gotten approximately 30 minutes into this book three times now and in each instance I was not interested in going further. Be it story or narrative or my mood over the weeks I've tried to read it, I just don't know....
Yet I feel compelled to share that experience or non-experience all the same. Even if I do not understand it.
I have not had this experience with other of the AQ books.

"Very gripping, you never know what's going to happen"

Fantastic historical romance. Never knew I would love it, I bought it because it was on sale, but I'm glad to say that I enjoyed it thoroughly. Very funny character the heroine is, almost as strong as the hero.
I also loved loved Barbara Rosenblat's enunciation of the story. It drew me in and held me captive for more than 10 hours.
I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good captivating historical romance, you won't regret buying this audio book.
