Summary

Against his will, Noctorno Hawthorne, an undercover vice cop, finds himself embroiled in magic, mayhem, and parallel universes. Too late, he meets an amazing woman - only to find she's destined for his identical twin in another world. And things aren't going real great there.

Noc is recruited to help save that world. What he doesn't know is his destined love resides there.

Franka Drakkar wears a mask. A mask she never takes off, to protect herself in a world of malice, intrigue, and danger. When Franka meets Noc and he discovers her secrets, convinced she carries a midnight soul, having shielded herself from forming bonds with anyone, she struggles with accepting his tenderness and care. When Noc meets Franka, over wine and whiskey her mask slips, and Noc knows it's her - only her - and he has to find a way to get her to come home with him.

And then make her want to stay.

Needs More Soul

OK--this is definitely NOT one of my favorite KA books; not even close. The sole reason it rated 3 stars was the creativity of this whole fantasyland series. While this book had its moments, the body of the work was pretty lackluster when compared to the first 4 books in the series. I hesitate to write further as spoilers would be inevitable in order to understand my response. I found 'Frannie' to be a non-compelling heroine for the most part and had not much more investment in Noc. The primary character in this book that resonated with me was Josette (remember I listened, so spelling may be an issue). Josette was a new character specific to this book; the other compelling character is Valentine, who has been a continuing character.

I think I understand KA's intent behind this story and there are quite a few strong moments/conversations. Yet, this book , to me, just does not have the force behind it that the first four have had.

The redeeming performance by Tillie Hooper is another reason for the 3 stars. She's quite magnificent as ALL voices. I am hopeful this is NOT the final book in the series.

still not as good as book 2

It was really entertaining hearing about the characters exploring this world but other than that it was lacking. I've heard the 5 books in the series and the only one i wanted to hear again was book 2, that had a really well taught out story.

Midnight Soul is Very Good Ending to the Series

Of the series Golden Dynasty is my favorite; but Midnight Soul was delightful and I do recommend it. I enjoyed the Frannie and Noc romance and the way we got insight into the lives of all the other characters.

I liked the way both of them had to let go of the past and believe for a bright feature and except love...

It was nice to see how the other Lahn and Circe met and started their romance. I would have loved it if they had their own book. (The chemistry between the two was really mind blowing) in the few scenes they were in.

I would say for those who like romance and adventure Midnight Soul is a delight and worth the credit.

Good.

Good but very long and a bit tedious. Liked the way they came back into our world.

Surprisingly excellent!

I was hesitant about this one of the series since the others were so fantastic and I wasn't such a fan of Noctorno falling for Franca but it was worth it...

4 Midnight Soul Stars

I feel like a broken record when I say I loved this series. Andi am sad it’s over, but I am soooo glad I took the chance and read them.

Again I have said it before but fantasy isn't my genre usually but this series made me a believer, getting lost in another world is just as fun as if it had been vampires or wolves.

This book dealt with the other Noctorno, and Franka who wasn't very nice in past books but we learn why she does and is the way she is. It’s very sad and we see why she wears the mask she does.

I very much enjoyed the switch bring her to his world and Frankie haven’t to learn about it was neat and something I am glad the last book had. We did have a little of that when the other Noctorno came to this world, but he adapted so fast you never would have known he was from a different place.

Overall I say woohoo to this series for sucking me in through 5 full length novels that are not small at all. But I am left smiling and happy I did so.

I will say this Tilly is freaking amazing with the narration of all of these books. To say I am a fan is the biggest understatement she did a fabulous job with each character not only there words but the way she brought each one to life, with their own voice. I am in awe of this talent.

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

Great ending to the series!

This book was a bit of a surprise for me. It's really hard to take a character that was loathed in previous books and turn them around. I felt Kristen Ashley did a great job of changing Franka from a detestable character to one you actually felt bad for. Her past did explain to me why she was they way she was and I was ok with the transition. I actually thought this book was very funny and entertaining. I did have an issue in the very beginning when Tor slept with a woman in their inner circle, before him and Franka got together, but I just didn't feel it was necessary to the story. I'm sad to see this series is over. I would have loved to have had the other Circe and Dax story.

***Narrator review: Tillie Hooper was fantastic as usual. I always recommend any audio book she narrates.

Ok

It finished all the characters really well, but was very slow. Took awhile to get through, but I am glad I listened to it.
