Summary

In the second novel in acclaimed author Sandra Owens's Aces & Eights series, passions - and tempers - flare as one star-crossed couple gets a second chance at love.

Covert FBI agent Court Gentry loves his brothers, his job, and his Harley-Davidson. Once he loved a girl, too, but when she broke his heart, he put his emotions on lockdown...until she crosses his path again.

On vacation six years ago, free-spirited Lauren Montgomery fell hard for Court Gentry. She returned home happier than ever, only to descend into a spiral of abuse by her ex-husband, Stephan. When Stephan threatened to kill any man who touched her, Lauren cut Court from her life - but not from her heart.

When Lauren and Court reunite after her friend marries his brother, Court guards himself against the person who made him feel such intense passion and pain. Except the undeniable spark between them is impossible to contain and heating up fast. Six years ago, it was love. Now, it's just lust. Keeping it merely physical is a foolproof plan...right?

When Stephan is released from prison, Lauren can't outrun her past anymore, and Court vows to protect her. But with Lauren in imminent danger, Court must question his heart and risk his life to save the woman he never stopped loving.

meh...

I downloaded these books a while back read one and abandoned them then when I read the second one I remembered why I had abandoned them. the storyline is not bad. the setting of it is where the problem lies. The female character I found irritating her backwards and forwards just did my head in. the male character well I couldn't make up my mind about him - sometimes he was alright other times I just didn't quite get what I needed from him. the whole ending to the saga was anti-climatic and again left me feeling is that It? the character that read him was flat with no change in intonation for different characters, the female narrater would have been better to read the whole book. Overall I felt dissatisfied by the whole thing.

Disappointing...

Would you try another book from Sandra Owens and/or Sebastian York and Amy McFadden ?

The character personalities were immature, they came off as hormonal teenagers playing at being adults. The storyline felt forced with unrealistic emotions. Poorly written, with even worse female narration. I will avoid all books narrated by the female narrator.

I must be a masochist...

This was painful. I’ve never before listened (or read) a book when I kind of wanted everyone to die. The characters are one-dimensional, the writing is trite. The inner dialogues were straight up painful. I’m not a quitter but I wanted to just delete this from about Chapter 2 onward. Seriously, my IQ dropped. The narrators did the best they could with a steaming pile of crap.

Great book.

This is another great book in a great series by Sandra Owens. There’s a lot of action too. Sebastian York and Amy McFadden both do a wonderful job narrating. I listened at 1.25 speed and it was perfectly fine as well.

Awesome hero and heroine!

This second audiobook in the Aces and Eights series was so far my favorite. The heroine and hero meet on Spring Break, but when they part she tells him it's over and breaks his heart. What he never knew was that she was brutally beaten by her ex-husband because she refused to tell him where she had been and who she had been with, while threatening to kill the man she'd spent time with. Years pass with her ex in prison, but news comes that he is nearing parole. At the same time her path crosses with the hero again, who is an FBI agent along with his 2 brothers. The truth comes out and now the fight to protect her is on. Excellent narration and looking forward to the next story in the series!

Decent Story and Decent Narration

So this story was pretty decent. I did like the previous book much better. I think that is because of the romance portion, I just didn't feel the connection between Court and Lauren that much. I did like the story line and the very bad ex husband. I like the undercover FBI agent's owning a biker bar too. There was a lot of dialogue throughout the entire book which was great.

I am totally looking forward to then next book in this series. I hope it comes out soon.

As for the narration, it was good. Although Sebastian York can read a medical journal and its like ear candy, I do wish he would try to change his voice for the female characters and people with accents. This wasn't Amy McFadden's best narration either but it wasn't horrible.

Best duo of narrators

I just love these two narrators. Sandra is a solid writer that has you laughing, crying and on the edge of you seat all at the same time. I look forward to the next one in the series.
