Summary

David escapes from the concentration camp where he has spent his entire life and flees across Europe. He is utterly alone – who can he trust? What will await him? And all the while, how can he be sure that they won’t catch up with him...David learns that his polite manner, his haunted eyes and his thin features are strange to other people. He must learn to fend for himself in this strange new world.

This is The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas meets Jonathan Safran Foer for children. An incredible story of survival against all odds and self discovery.

What a wonderful story!

This is my favourite audiobook so far. I bought it based on the good reviews and I wasn't disappointed. I must admit, I am into World War 2 novels at the moment but even if I wasn't, I would still love this book. The writing is superb and the narration very good. The story is simple but very thought provoking. I will now buy the paperback version and read it with my 10 year old son.

compelling

A captivating story which takes you moment by moment through the epic journey David takes to escape the only life he's known. The narration is excellently done and I could listen to it all over again. I remember reading this as a young person, but had forgotten most of the story. This audible narration brought the whole thing to life, and I enjoyed sharing it with my 10yr old son (nearly 11). Beware, deals with the traumatic issue of being held prisoner, but David is such a force of life it is done in a suitable way for young readers.

Emotional

An amazing story of strong will, free will and the will to live in freedom or die trying.

David is the kind human being we would all like to be if only we had the integrity and resolve.

His thirst for knowledge, love, acceptance and meaning is the story of humankind which is why it is so easy to invest so entirely in his story.

You will travel every step of his journey with him and come out the other end emotionally battered and bruised but so thoroughly alive that the hurt no longer matters.

A+++

I AM DAVID

One of the most memorable books I read as a teenager. Listening to it on Audible reduced me ti tears again. The narrator was brilliant. The plot is beautifully structured and extremely touching. It tells of a boy born into a concentration camp, escaping into the world and how he survives on his way home to a place he does not know. I would highly recommend it.
