Summary
The #1 New York Times bestselling author of How Stella Got Her Groove Back and Waiting To Exhale is back with the inspiring story of a woman who shakes things up in her life to find greater meaning.
In I Almost Forgot About You, Dr. Georgia Young's wonderful life--great friends, family, and successful career--aren't enough to keep her from feeling stuck and restless. When she decides to make some major changes in her life, including quitting her job as an optometrist and moving house, she finds herself on a wild journey that may or may not include a second chance at love. Georgia’s bravery reminds us that it’s never too late to become the person you want to be, and that taking chances, with your life and your heart, are always worthwhile.
Big-hearted, genuine, and universal, I Almost Forgot About You shows what can happen when you face your fears, take a chance, and open yourself up to life, love, and the possibility of a new direction. It’s everything you’ve always loved about Terry McMillan.
Critic reviews
"McMillan is a gifted storyteller… The cast of characters enriches the narrative, bringing nuance and clarity to scenes and moving the plot along…. Georgia’s story reminds readers who have clocked a lot of living that it’s never too late to reconnect and reflect on the past as they craft the future they want."—Fort Worth Star Telegram
"The ripple effects from Terry McMillan’s breakthrough in contemporary African-American fiction still influence our daily lives... [I Almost Forgot About You is] much in the same vein of McMillan’s other novels that track Black women’s journeys through self-discovery."—BLAC Detroit
"McMillan is a master at her craft. Without a doubt, this book will be a hit with anyone who feels stuck in life and is ready to make a move. McMillan has done it again. Get this book and read about Georgia’s journey. This is another book that should be on everyone’s reading list."—The Baton Rouge Advocate

Am I missing something?
I bought this off the back of all the reviews. I am familiar with the author, after reading Disappearing Acts over 20 years ago now. This is the first time I have listened to an audio version of this author. I wanted to love this book! Sadly, I got to chapter 3 then gave up. I just did not enjoy the narration, I felt Terri McMillan just reading the words, there was no inflection in her tone, just a steady drawl that never changed. She almost sounded bored. She doesn't change her tone for the different voices which makes it very hard to identify which character is speaking. This may be a very good story going by the reviews, but perhaps this book needs to be narrated by a different person.

Un-put-downable!
Loved this story and the way it unfolded! Even better it was read by the author. Forgotten how much I loved Terry McMillan! This story came to me at the right time and left me wanting more. Worth the listen!

struggled to take in the story
struggled to finish the book as the narrations were very slow and nonchalant. Made it difficult to enjoy this book for me, unfortunately.

N/A
This book is mired in nuances of negative stereotyping of Blacks, particularly Black men. Every chapter is corroded with flawed characters who appear to have either missed the self love, or the moral, boat. Interesting that Stan is seemingly the only perfect character. Disappointing...

So relatable and funny
Loved it, bar the swearing. Loved the authors drawl and how the story came alive but most of all I just loved how I connected with Georgia and many, not all of her experiences. A great book to unwind and de-stress.

Very American, lacks substance
I love Terry Mcmillan. Enjoyed Waiting to Exhale and When Stella Got her Groove. This book is about a shouty African American woman who is bored. It seems to follow that this book is also boring. The lady seems perpetually angry even when making a joke. It's too much for me.
