Summary
Would you rather know a truth that makes you feel hopeless, or keep believing the lies? Beloved and bestselling author Colleen Hoover returns with the spellbinding story of two young people with devastating pasts who embark on a passionate, intriguing journey to discover the lessons of life, love, trust--and above all, the healing power that only truth can bring.
Sky, a senior in high school, meets Dean Holder, a guy with a promiscuous reputation that rivals her own. From their very first encounter, he terrifies and captivates her. Something about him sparks memories of her deeply troubled past, a time she's tried so hard to bury.
Though Sky is determined to stay far away from him, his unwavering pursuit and enigmatic smile break down her defenses and the intensity of the bond between them grows. But the mysterious Holder has been keeping secrets of his own, and once they are revealed, Sky is changed forever and her ability to trust may be a casualty of the truth.
Only by courageously facing the stark revelations can Sky and Holder hope to heal their emotional scars and find a way to live and love without boundaries. Hopeless is a novel that will leave you breathless, entranced, and remembering your own first love.

An intensely moving, mature read
I’m so late to the Colleen Hoover party but boy am I making up for lost time. After already devouring two of her other novels, I sunk my teeth into the raw and raunchy Hopeless. I opted for the audiobook for a more immersive experience.
Hopeless juggles hard-to-stomach topics in a consciously sympathetic way; Colleen often skirts around issues such as suicide and abuse to avoid spelling out horrific details. Without personal experience, it’s hard to judge how appropriately these issues have been dealt with, but the right intentions are definitely there.
We are presented with an incredibly flawed and troubled cast, who you can’t help but love. Their feelings are a tangible, palpable thing dragging you in by the gut. Your heart bleeds for them throughout, their bond obvious from the start. There is no denying the unhealthy aspects to Sky and Holder’s relationship - yes, there’s problems, yes it’s messy but it’s REAL.
The ferocious intensity of Hopeless is certainly gripping but sometimes verges on self-indulgent with repetitive phrases, melodrama and exhaustive dialogue. Nevertheless, none of this detracts from the artful narrative structure. Colleen repeatedly blindsides you with jaw-dropping plot twists that both satisfy and shatter your theories. She certainly knows how to tell a story and this one will leave you gasping for air.
An intensely moving, mature read - Hopeless gains 4.5 stars from me.

favourite so far!!
ok, this book! wow wow wow. i know i say it everytime but WOW this one is a perfect amount of romance, twists and turns, real life situations and comedy. i love a twist and turn in books and tv and can normally guess whats going to happen, but no sir i did not guess with this book, even down to the final page!
the only downfall i had with it, is that when goethals is telling the story is speaking there is constantly little noises in the backroom (not sure if its her bumping the mic or the pages of the book turning) but i did manage to zone it out. also some of the words are cut short randomly throughout 🤷🏼♀️
hoover has done it again, this book made my heart feel so full, i cannot wait to finish the mini series. thank you hoover 🫶🏽

insufferable
I could not stomach more than a chapter or so, it was sooo cringey. The depiction of the main character's personality is far fetched and cringey. I didn't enjoy the narrator either, the voices of male characters are hard to take serious.

Too much teenage angst for me!
This was not my usual type of book, but the reviews were good, so I gave it a try. It is beautifully written and narrated but I had to stop halfway through even though I want to know what happens. There was just too much repetitious teenage angst for me. More suited to a teenage audience.

Wouldn’t recommend
The storyline was good however some of the characters younger selves spoke in a way that no other child would speak, too far fetched and deep for a child and kind of ruined it for me.
Accents were terrible and the narrator constantly had a clicking sound in the background and stopped before the end of a word.
I’ve read almost all of Colleens books and this was probably the worst which is a shame considering how important the storyline was.

Beautiful ❤️
I really didn't know what to expect. And then panicked when i realised the storyline featured a sensitive topic that I had also expirenced. I wasn't sure whether or not to finish it but I am so glad I did! It actually became a book that has helped/ contributed to my healing. I would read this again. I fell in love with the character!
