Summary

Heimsuchung - Visitation rights and wrongs

I listened to this in the original German, having previously read it some years ago. It’s a fascinating story of lives lived and lost over the course of more than a century. A time of massive historical changes in Germany presented through the lives of the inhabitants of a single piece of land and properties on it, mostly in their mundanity, sometimes through the shocking jolts of events.
Eroenbeck writes in a range of genres to tell the story of- sometimes it reads like a fairytale, sometimes a catalogue, sometimes an interior monologue. It’s not always an easy read - or listen- but it is one you will want to live in.
