Summary

It's got a thunderstorm in it. And revenge. Definitely revenge.

Felix is at the top of his game as artistic director of the Makeshiweg Theatre Festival. His productions have amazed and confounded. Now he's staging a Tempest like no other: not only will it boost his reputation, it will heal emotional wounds. Or that was the plan.

Instead, after an act of unforeseen treachery, Felix is living in exile in a backwoods hovel, haunted by memories of his beloved lost daughter, Miranda. And brewing revenge.

After 12 years revenge finally arrives in the shape of a theatre course at a nearby prison. Here Felix and his inmate actors will put on his Tempest and snare the traitors who destroyed him. It's magic! But will it remake Felix as his enemies fall?

Margaret Atwood's novel take on Shakespeare's play of enchantment, revenge and second chances leads us on an interactive, illusion-ridden journey filled with new surprises and wonders of its own.

One of the best books ever, a must have for all

A very thrilling and spell-binding new take on Shakespeare 's The Tempest, especially valuable for teachers thinking of putting the play on stage

Very good

I am studying the tempest at school and found this adaptation a really engaging way to get to grips with the original plot! The dramatisation is particularly engaging and impressive!!

Excellent!

Beautifully narrated. This is an outstanding retelling of The Tempest. I only wish she would re-write Shakepeare’s other plays too!

Tempest retold

An absorbing reinterpretation of The Tempest, and at the same time illuminating the original play.

A wonderful story of creativity, grief and revenge

Worthy of the Bard himself!! I didn't know the story of the Tempest, but it is helpfully paraphrased at the end of the book. I would have preferred it to be at the beginning, as I'd pretty much grasped the basics by the end and it seemed a bit superfluous. That said, I felt that the book was both entertaining and educational. The story of the Tempest and those involved in its production carefully interwoven. Believable and likeable characters and an unguessable plotline. Loved it.

Perfectly executed plot

The novel is a masterpiece in expertly engineered plot and intriguing story. I absolutely loved it. The intertextual play between Shakespeare's Tempest and that of the novel's is riveting. The prison play is simply brilliant. And what's so refreshing is the narration is pitch perfect. I highly recommend this audibook.

The Tempest retold

I really loved this adaption with all it's layers and metaphors! Atwood once again takes an ordinary person and shows us how easy people can change through the events both good and bad in life.
