Publisher's Summary

In her sizzling, award-winning novels of suspense, best-selling author Suzanne Brockmann delves into the adrenaline-rushed world of counterterrorism - and taps into the real passions of its brave men and women. In Gone Too Far she spins a story of action, intrigue, and romance as a US Navy SEAL and an FBI agent race to unravel a mystery while confronting their unresolved feelings for each other.

In his career as one of America's elite warriors, Lieutenant Sam Starrett can do no wrong. In his private life, Sam - the king of one-night stands - has done little right. Now, he's waiting for a divorce and determined to stay active in his young daughter's life. But when Sam shows up at the door of his ex-wife's home in Sarasota, Florida, he makes a grisly discovery. His daughter is gone, and a woman lies brutally murdered on the floor.

FBI agent Alyssa Locke's relationship with Sam has been overwhelmingly intense and nearly catastrophic, yet it refuses to end. The last time she saw Sam was six months earlier, when they worked together to stop terrorists from assassinating the president. Much to her dismay, Alyssa is assigned to lead the murder investigation, and once again the two are face-to-face. When explosive information surfaces linking Sam to the still-unsolved assassination plot, the stakes are raised. With her reputation on the line and her loyalties in question, Alyssa is faced with an impossible dilemma: arrest a man she believes to be innocent or risk her career.

While Alyssa tries to fight their intense attraction, Sam is determined to heat things up once again. And the complex case pushes them both to the wrong side of the law - and on the run to discover the truth. As more agents step into the chase, and with Sam's daughter still unaccounted for, neither Alyssa nor Sam can predict just how deadly hot this situation is about to become.

    "I Miss the Previous Narrator"
If you could sum up Gone Too Far in three words, what would they be?

    Typically great story.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Cannot select just one great character, as that is Brockmann's specialty - developing realistic, complex characters. She is able to endear her readers to even her most flawed characters (Mary Lou). Isn't that what the real world is like? Most people have redeeming qualities, and major weaknesses.

What didn’t you like about Patrick Lawlor and Melanie Ewbank ’s performance?

Melanie Ewbank - she just read the story. A good narrator performs the story, so you forget it is being read. Sam no longer had a great Southern drawl, and the other characters sounded pretty similar. For the price of an audio-book, I believe the reading should be a performance (and fortunately, they usually are).

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I enjoyed the Sam/Alyssa interplay, Gina's confidence and maturity in dealing with Max, Mary Lou's development and growth, and the back story of Noah's parents. Brockmann's weaving in of WWII stories is masterful.

    Any additional comments?

Usual Brockmann great story, but the female narrator is ... not great (sorry, not trying to be mean). I listened to all of the Troubleshooter stories some years ago, and it seems that they re-recorded them with new narrators. I still have some of the originals, so I enjoy them, but the others came from the library, and I can no longer get with the old narrators. Sigh. Guess I'll have to read them if I want to continue the series a second time around!

    "Worth the wait"

I've been looking forward to Sam and Alyssa's story for ages. Brockmann did not disappoint. It had everything I love about Sam and Alyssa, a continuation of Max and Gina, some Tom and Kelly and tons of excitement. If I had to have one complaint though it would be that at times there was too much going on in the story, too many POVs. Usually the side WWII story adds to the plot but not so much this time. I found myself getting annoyed when the main story, which was pretty exciting, would get interrupted to go back in time. I think it would have been better to leave it out this time. Anyway, I still loved the story and would recommend it to any Brockmann fan and especially to a Troubleshooters series fan. It's a must read for the series.

These books always make me cry. I feel the love and heart ache that the characters feel because the story flows beautifully. The narration is great with the exception of Sam's voice.

Where does Gone Too Far rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I read/listen every day for at least 2 hours and this is one of the best books I have read in months.

What other book might you compare Gone Too Far to and why?

None, and that is one of the reasons I like it so much. So may books seem to be alike.

What about Patrick Lawlor and Melanie Ewbank ’s performance did you like?

Both are great narrators. I have heard Patrick before and he is one of my favorite. Both are believable in their character voices.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Good question. "Get ready to be entertained"

    Any additional comments?

Just purchased 2 more Brockman books with same narrators. Can't wait to start.

Where does Gone Too Far rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Way up near the top. In the Troubleshooters Series alone, this is in the top 3 easily, and the Troubleshooters Series is miles above nearly every other romantic and/or romantic suspense book I've read.

What did you like best about this story?

Um, Everything. Sam and Alyssa, Max and Gina, Walt and Dot, Tom and Kelly (omg the wedding), Sam's 'adoptive' family and the dichotomy between a very country/southern boy being raised by a black family, Ibrahim coming for Mary Lou, Sam's screaming out the helicopter at Max talking to Alyssa, the teenage sniper-in-training... It's all just so good.

    Which scene was your favorite?

There's no way I could pick one, or even three.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Sam and Alyssa's confrontation in the back of the walmart. Holy geezus. Also, the explosion that injures Kelly, Tom's reaction(s), Izzy... Ouch my heart.

Suzanne Brockmann is a master at her craft and has brought the injustice of racial profiling to the attention of her readers at least. Everyone in our world should be vocally opposed to it.

"One of the better romantic Suspense novel"

I enjoyed listening to this - and it is as the headline says - One of the better ones of its kind. There is even some humor in it. I was very confused the first 30 minuts pr so since the Male MC has three different names and i was not comepletely sure we were takling about the same person, especially since there is actually many stories at once in the book and therefore many characters introduced in the first 30 minuts. It May not be a problem if u listen to the troubleshooters series from the start instead of jumping in at book six, which this One is, as i discovered. And a lot of the previous history among the characters May also be in the previous books, which is why i Think it would be a same not to start from the beginning. Didnt really love the narrators. There was nothing wrong with them at all, just not my cup of tea.

Sam and Allysa's story has always been one of my favorites. This book brings such great characters together and starts the Troubleshooters. The narrators did an excellent job of giving each character their own personality and it was a fun listen.
