About this listen

Merham is a well-ordered 50s seaside town - the kind of town where everyone knows their place (and those who don't are promptly put in it).

Lottie Swift is an evacuee who has grown up with the respectable Holden family and loves Merham. The Holden's daughter Celia, however, chafes against the constraints on the town and longs to escape....

Usually I’m buried in a JoJo Moyes story from the get go, but this one took a while and I couldn’t make the connections- but I finally got hooked and enjoyed the second half of the book.

Hard to get into, good finish

Really detailed and believable characters at the beginning and main story was excellent however conclusion was rather quickly and roughly drawn together. Nevertheless a decent read.

Good engaging story but rather quickly pulled together end

I found the story hard to get to grips with as it jumps from character to character, and from past to present with no warning. when I was at chapter 40 I was just about into it, it was very boring and not my usual read . I finished the book, but only because I was at work and it was better than silence.

very long story, hard to follow

was ok I've listened to better books by this author. The narrator was very good at using different voices for the characters.

The book....
