Summary

Helena Conway has fallen in love. Unwillingly. Unwittingly. But not unprovoked. Kit Isley is everything she's not - unstructured, untethered, and not even a little bit careful. It could all be so beautiful...if he wasn't dating her best friend. Helena must defy her heart, do the right thing, and think of others. Until she doesn't.

Left me feeling confused?

3.5 stars (based on my understanding of the story)

This is not a negative review, even though it may seem like it, it is more about me and my understanding of this book than a reflection on the author, writing style or the story.

I guess maybe I was expecting something a little different. I enjoyed the story but I think maybe I'm just too "beige" sometimes for Tarryn's writing style. I think maybe I see things in black and white and that makes it hard for me to understand the artsy writing style that leaves a story completely up for interpretation. I never seem to get the story the way others do. I liked the characters but I really couldn't connect with them but I think that is just because they were eclectic and I am not, if that makes sense. I did enjoy the story for the most part but I just don't think I "get" her stories as much as I wish I did. I can see how someone who is a little dark and a little bit of a nonconformist would love this story. I however just don't have the mind set to get more from a story than the actual words say. Yes I know, I'm boring.

Anyways, If you like dark and twisty and you like a book that will make you think the entire time you will love this book!

The narration was different for sure. At first I wasn't a fan but as I got to know the main character more I realized the narrator was perfect for her voice!

Well that was mind f*ckery.

Not sure what who I was rooting for in that book. In the end, I am content with the outcome, but I was really confused what I wanted for Helena mid-book. Lots of twists and turns and some intriguing characters that give you a lot to ponder.
First time listen for Marisa Vitali and I liked her. She did a great job with all the characters. I didn't like when she said "Helena", but I'm not sure if it's because I hated the name for the character or the way she said it, but other than that- all was good.
I would recommend for a listen.

Too sad made me depressed

Story was drawn out and really sad. Story took too much time to develop and then it goes down hill

One of the worst books I’ve listened to!!!

I’m not sure which was worse, the story and writing or the narrator. The entire plot made no sense at all. Save yourself the money and time...buy a different book.

A romance about fighting for what you want

Tarryn Fisher always writes from a deep vault of truth, emotion, wisdom, passion, and poetry - and that's evident in the words of F*** Love.

This book isn't about hating on love or being jaded, but more so about living for yourself instead of being who everyone else expects you, or needs you, to be. It's about not running away from the truth of life or the truth in your heart. Each page in this book has a kernel of knowledge, a gem of wisdom, tucked inside. And the way Tarryn Fisher preaches her own truth through Helena's and Kit's story is such poetry, so heartbreaking and yet heartwarming at the same time.

"You can’t run away to find yourself. Yourself is there no matter where you go. The difference is, if you’re running, you’ll be too busy to pick up the sword and face your enemies. Sometimes your enemy will be you; sometimes it will be those with the power to hurt you. Take off your shoes and stop running. Live barefoot and f***ing fight."

Tarryn Fisher doesn't write the conventional romance novel. She writes what's real and messy and complicated. She writes what to learn from heart break. This book made me laugh (a lot), and cry, and google Harry Potter terms, and be introspective. I was hooked from the beginning and forgot everything going on around me until I was at the end.

“Nothing worth finding is actually easy to find,” he says. “I know this from experience.”

Such a unique, angsty story.

What made the experience of listening to F*ck Love the most enjoyable?

The narrator really embodied the spirit of Helena. She really helped me to visualize her.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked that it was NOT at all predictable. It kept me on my toes the who way through.

What about Marisa Vitali’s performance did you like?

I liked everything. Her timing... it felt like she was acting the story rather than reading it.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me feel a lot of emotions. I loved Helena and her innocence. I hated Della and the fact that she stepped on Helena every chance that she got. And I appreciated that Kit really got her.

Different, Quirky

I wasn't sure what to expect from this story. I had never read a Tarryn Fischer book before nor had a heard of the narrator Mariska Vitali, so this was going to be a whole new experience for me. And it was.
The story was quirky, different. The directions the author took often left me quite puzzled as to why the main heroine Helena did what she did or why the main Hero Kitt did what he did. The outcome was somewhat expected, but at times I thought for sure it was going to be totally different. And it was different than my initial thought, although I did feel it lacked a true end.
The narrator did a pretty good job of bringing Helena to life. She made her feel real and was a good fit for the book.

Another awesome book by Tarryn

Tarryn makes you feel every emotion possible with her books. I laughed and cried, and there was even an occasion or two where I yelled at my screen. Ready for my next Tarryn book right away!

Great story, terrible narrator.

What disappointed you about F*ck Love?

I am a big fan of Tarryn Fisher, and very much enjoyed the story. Unfortunately, the narrator of made it incredibly difficult to want to finish the book. I would recommend purchasing the paperback.
