Summary

When it comes to love, no one is in charge.

Isabel Chase is reeling. She's just been offered her dream job as a staff writer on one of the hottest shows on television and quickly trades in the comfort of New England for sun, sand, and everything Hollywood. While stoked for what could be her big break, the show's stunning executive producer has her head spinning and her feelings swirling.

Taylor Andrews is at the top of her career. Everything she touches turns to gold and the studios know it. Just when she's on track for total television domination, Isabel Chase arrives in her office and slowly turns her world upside down. Isabel is intelligent, sarcastic, and dammit, downright beautiful. Unfortunately, she's the one person that can take away all Taylor has worked for.

Will Isabel's success lead to Taylor's downfall? Or perhaps Isabel is all she needs....

Worth a listen

Loved the story and the narrator adds something to it the way she reads it. I say definitely worth a try.

Could have been more

I have rated this four, but in reality, the story didn't grip me the way other Melissa Brayden stories did. Although, the narration from Melissa Sternenberg was very good. I think the reason I struggled with this one was because it was based on Hollywood, from the angle of writers and successful producers. The conflict, in the form of a jaded ex-lover also felt a bit one sided and it felt shallow of Tyler Andrews not to just confront her nemesis. There are reasons why she doesn't, but they didn't paint Tyler in a good light, ethically. Maybe I'm struggling to say why I didn't like this story so much, but I guess it was - the setting, I'm not a big Hollywood fan. But also, the unit of friends around Isabel Chase which are normally charming in Brayden novels, for whatever reason, seemed a bit forced, in that they became passionate friends too instantly and without this being earned. In addition, Chase suffers from anxiety, and I see this portrayed well, but as someone who suffers from GAD, Chase's anxiety was a bit too convenient and not as crippling as it is in reality; Chase didn't come across as the broken heroine who needed help, but rather someone with a minor problem which caused issues from time to time, meaning I didn't feel sympathy for her - she seemed to have everything she needed and was getting everything she wanted.

I realise this is a new set of characters Melissa is developing for future novels (and audiobooks). I hope I can somehow engage with this new Californian crew.

A very easy listen

I listen to audio books a lot and Melissa Brayden is a perfect storyteller for me

First encounter

This is my first encounter with Melissa Brayden and I enjoyed it. It was a light read and very well suited to audio. I will be buying the other books in this series.

Couldn’t listen to it.

I have to say that I couldn’t listen to this book. The narrator seemed as if she was speed reading it.

I usually relax whilst listen to audio books but I found this just irritating.

A waste of a credit.

Not Melissa's best

I was a little disappointed with this book after being so excited when it released on Audible. The Soho Loft series was excellent and I expected more of the same. I found the romance a little rushed which made it hard to believe and connect with. Because of this the romantic scenes felt too mushy and dare I say it a bit too Mills & Boon for me. Sorry Melissa.

Narration was good, despite me hoping desperately for narration by Felicity Munroe, who manages to make you get lost in a book.

I'll buy the next in the series in the hope that her previous style of writing, which has kept me gripped and made me listen to her books again and again, returns.
