Publisher's Summary

Opposites attract and sparks fly in the delightful small town of Christmas Creek.

Holly Jolly lives for Christmas. It's the only time of the year, as far as she's concerned.

Gordon Gills doesn't need a reason to hate the holiday season. He doesn't see the point.

Gordon returns to the mansion he inherited and finds Holly making a mess with her Christmas decorations. Unfortunately, his great-aunt's will stipulates that he must make merry every Christmas if he wants to keep his inheritance.

Holly is determined to infect the grouchy Gordon with every dose of Christmas cheer she can muster and show him what Christmas is really about.

Will Gordon prevail and turn Holly into a Grinch, or will a sprinkling of Christmas magic show Gordon that there's no fighting love, especially when it's wrapped up in a gorgeous redheaded package of jolly holly?

    Story
"Short, Sweet, full of Christmas Cheer and Magic!"

Looking for a book to catapult you into Christmas spirit?

This sweet, bite size nugget may be it. It is a romance about the heart of Chtistmas, beyond the superficial commercial wrapping. It is also about finding home and the person you want to share it with. Throw in a little magic, plenty of tinsel, an incognito elf and a little family history and you have this delightful, feel-good story set in a town dedicated to the season to be jolly. Makes me curious about the other books in the series.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

    Story
    "Fun and Surprising"
Would you consider the audio edition of Deck the Hearts to be better than the print version?

I loved both the print and audio version of this story. It is a completely fun and heartfelt story that will melt the icing off any cake. This story will warm your heart and bring much needed cheer to your life. You will love every minute of it!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Deck the Hearts?

My favorite part of the story is when Holly realized that she really and truly loved Gordon. She didn't see what was right in front of her because she thought she had a job to do and ignored what her heart was trying to tell her. Once she gave into what she knew all this time was true, she knew she was finally at home.

Which character – as performed by Kate Marcin – was your favorite?

Gordon was my favorite because he wanted to believe that there was more in life then what he had experienced. She showed that there was so much more to Gordon then he left on, and Holly never gave up on changing his mind. It was a great experience!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, I cried and laughed a few times throughout this amazing story! I couldn't help but be pulled in by the wonderful characters and the heart pulling plot.

    Story
"Holly Jolly elf meets Grinch Gordon"
    Any additional comments?

This is such a cute story of Holly Jolly and Gordon Gills. Each of the chapters has a line from Deck the Halls which is a unique way to title the chapters. Holly lives in Christmas Creek and her business and the rest of the town is dependent on the Christmas festival. Gordon has inherited the mansion that is the center of the festival. He doesn't like Christmas or anything to do with it until he meets Holly. His goal is to turn her against Christmas so he can build condos instead of Christmas themed stores. Love has a way to turn even the "Grinchiest" person's heart. Another wonderful story from Rachelle Ayala and great narration from Kate Marcin. I received a free copy in exchange for my honest review. You can't miss this Christmas themed story that will get you in the Christmas spirit whatever time of year you listen to it.

    "Just what I needed!!"

Whether you love Christmas all year round or are just trying to get into the holiday spirit, Deck the Hearts: A Christmas Creek Romance, Book 1 will leave you smiling and feeling happy! This audiobook, written by Rachelle Ayala and narrated by Kate Marcin, is around 2 hours long...perfect for a drive up north or a Saturday afternoon at home! I didn't know it at the time, but being that I didn't stop smiling once throughout the entire listen, it was just what I needed!

Rachelle Ayala is an amazing author. :-) She has a way of pulling you into the story and making you feel like you are right there in the action of it all. Her characters are not only relatable and loveable, but they also feel like friends! Sometimes when I listen to a book, it takes me 2 hours to get to know the characters in the story...this book is just 2 hours, and when it was over I felt like I was saying good-bye to people I've known for years! Not everyone has talent like that! Great job!

Kate Marcin's narration made my experience more exciting and engaging than if I had just read it. I love audiobooks, but finding a narrator who adds to the story as a whole isn't always an easy task! I think she did a fantastic job! Ayala and Marcin are a great team!!

Overall, I rate this audiobook 5/5 stars! The plot advances quite quickly, but being that it is a short listen, that is expected. For me, the length is PERFECT! I don't want to give away any of story, but I will say that nothing drags on and onnnnnn like some books do. I loved it, and as I already stated, I didn't stop smiling even once. As I write this review, the date is September 13th, and Christmas isn't for a few months. However, I enjoyed this audiobook just as much as I would have if it were December 13th (in fact, I'll proably listen to it again around that time)! I highly recommend Deck the Hearts: A Christmas Creek Romance, Book 1 to those who love Romance, Chick Lit, or books about the holidays!

Thank you so much for reading my review. I hope it was helpful. :-)

    "Unique story!"

This was a good story. It is well written and the storyline a bit unique. I liked the storyline, the setting was nice, it is a quick listen. The characters, I didn't warm up to really, but that does not mean you won't. As with any of this authors work, it is never time Wasted! You are always treated to a well told tale.

    "Deck The Hearts"
What was one of the most memorable moments of Deck the Hearts?

There are many memorable moments. The one that really stands out for me, is when Holly and Gordon go to visit her Grandmother and tell her a story.

What does Kate Marcin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Kate makes the characters seem to come alive. I enjoyed reading the book and also enjoyed the narration. She reads with so much emotion and does the characters really well.I never got bored and was able to be fully immersed in the story.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Right from the beginning the story caught my attention. It starts out being humorous and then becomes heartwarming and touching. I laughed out loud several times. From the names of the characters alone, I knew this was going to be a "magical" story!

    Any additional comments?

Rachelle Ayala gives us a story that has us feeling many emotions. From humor to touching romance, this story can turn the biggest Grinch into someone with Christmas spirit. It's a sweet story to just sit back and relax and escape the rush of the season or anytime you just want to escape from life's stress.

    Story
    "Fa-La-La-La-Loved It!"

Holly Jolly is Christmas Creek's most enthusiastic professional decorator and lives for the Christmas season. When one of the town's premier patrons passes away, Gordon Gills inherits her estate and decides to sell the town to developers. It's up to Holly to convince the grinch of the true spirit of the holiday to save Christmas Creek.

This was a sweet Christmas novella you'll want to finish in one sitting! Each chapter began with a line from Deck the Halls and it just flowed so well with the story, it was really well done. My favorite scene was when Holly visited her grandmother and told her the Christmas story. That simple scene injected so much heart and love into Holly's character. Gordon was a true grinch in the beginning, but I could just feel his heart growing larger each time he was around Holly. The magical ending was perfect.

The narration was really well done, I loved the singing parts. I requested a copy of the audiobook, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review. I'll be listening to this one again in December!

    Story
    "Scrooge meets Eliza Doolittle ..."

A sweet twist on the Grinch scenario. Gordon bottles up his anger and resentment along with loneliness and pain to the point where his bitterness overshadows everything that has importance in his life. Holly is the optimist that turns his life upside down and pulls him kicking and screaming into the magical season of hope, charity and faith. Maybe even love. I am not normally a fan of stories with Grinch or Scrooge like characters but there was something so compelling about Gordon that I couldn't look away. Deck the Hearts exposes what an open heart and open mind can do for the soul and the difference one action can make in the lives of others. At first reading I was a believer at first listen, Ms. Marcin reminded me why, I'm a Rachelle Ayala fan.

    Story
    "Fa La La La La!!!!"

Christmas Creek is the town I would love to live in! Rachelle Ayala has given us the most heart warming Christmas story. Holly, an "elf" and Gordon, the "grinch" find themselves attracted to each other, despite the fact that Gordon can change the future of their whole town. Gordon hates Christmas, and it's up to Holly to change his view. Will she be able to do it? With love on their side, a grandmother with an wonderful Christmas story, 5 helpful siblings and Gordon's crazy father, this story will sure to bring a smile to your face, a little angst and lots of holiday spirit! Love the "Deck the Halls" chapter titles, it's a seamless introduction to each one. This is a beautiful listen.

Kate Marcin performs this story with her warm voice. I love the tones and emotions she uses, making you feel comfortable while listening. Her narration is perfect and hope she continues with this holiday series.
