Opposites attract. Appearances can deceive. A dashing and rugged façade hides the vulnerable man within. He will gamble with his life, but never his heart. Always the observer, never the observed, her fragility hides conviction. She will risk everything for love. One fateful night they collide. The attraction is immediate, the consequences profound....

London and Hampshire, 1777: The story of Alisdair "Dair" Fitzstuart, nobleman, ex-soldier, and rogue, and Aurora "Rory" Talbot, spinster, pineapple fancier, and granddaughter of England's Spymaster General, and how they fall in love.

Superlative Narration of a Flawless Book

Would you consider the audio edition of Dair Devil to be better than the print version?

I can't say that the audio edition of this book is better than the print one, because without the perfect story to begin with, the narration couldn't be as good. The author's work and the narrator's perfectly compliment each other and make for a magnificent audio book.

What did you like best about this story?

Can I say everything? Seriously, from beginning to end this book captivated me. I loved hearing more about characters from previous stories, but also getting to know new characters. The story lines flowed easily and steadily and each character's interaction with another made sense. Some relationships were tense, others lighthearted, but all of them were written beautifully, and so well that you either loved them, or hated them.

What about Alex Wyndham’s performance did you like?

Alex has a voice like silk, his normal narrative voice is smooth, and perfectly understandable. He comes into his own when he starts putting voices to the characters though. Each and every one, from the deep voiced men, to the high voiced women are so good that at times you forget that it's just one man doing all the voices. In this particular book, although Alex does the perfect English gentleman voice, it was a real treat and a novelty to hear him do a West Country accent for the members of the Banks family. I couldn't help but smile at not only the great voice interpretation, but also the scenes written by the author about the family.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

You Can't Judge a Book by its Cover.

Any additional comments?

Before I listen to new audio edition books by Lucinda Brant and narrated by Alex Wyndham, I cross my fingers that I will enjoy listening to it as much as I have previous books written and narrated by them. I know I love Lucinda's books, and that Alex performs them marvelously, but I worry that perhaps this time I might just end up listening to the same old same old. BUT how wrong I am every single time. Each book tells a fabulous story, and Alex continues to bring something new to each book every time. I should trust the perfect combination of Lucinda and Alex because I can't see them ever letting their readers/listeners down.

Another fantastic story

Absolutely brilliant. Loved every second of yet another fantastic story of the Roxton family.
The beginning was hilarious I laughed so much I was practically in tears.
But hallway through the story I got a bit confused about Dair's father being so awful, because if it is the same man as Antonia's uncle and guardian in the beginning of the saga when the Duke of Roxton sent her away to her grandmother before he eventually married her, it was her grandmother that was really awful not her uncle. Her uncle was a really nice man, this was when Charlotte, Dair's mother, and Theo met and got married, they were a very nice couple, and Antonia's uncle Theo, Dair's father, was a really nice quiet man, completely contrary to how he was described in this book. So I was a bit confused. But then as the story progressed it explained why he changed some years back. To begin with when he was younger he used to suppress his temper, but then after he got married his marriage wasn't a happy one at all so he couldnt keep his temper at bay anymore. So he left the family.
But I loved this story as much as the others. I will definitely be listening to this series again.
Alex Wyndham was absolutely brilliant as always.
Now on to the next one.

Rollicking good story

I cried with laughter, sadness and delight. Alex Wyndham’s genius in accents and voices, and comic timing makes this great story, a hoot. Young mens antics, hilarious. With romance thrown in, just up my street.
