Publisher's Summary

From the creator of The Honest Toddler comes a fiction debut sure to be a must-listen for moms everywhere.

There are good moms and bad moms - and then there are hot-mess moms. Introducing Ashley Keller, career girl turned stay-at-home mom who's trying to navigate the world of Pinterest-perfect, Facebook-fantastic, and Instagram-impressive mommies but failing miserably.

When Ashley gets the opportunity to participate in the Motherhood Better boot camp run by the mommy-blog-empire maven she idolizes, she jumps at the chance to become the perfect mom she's always wanted to be. But will she fly high or flop?

With her razor-sharp wit and knack for finding the funny in everything, Bunmi Laditan creates a character as flawed and lovable as Bridget Jones or Becky Bloomwood while hilariously lambasting the societal pressures placed upon every new mother. At its heart, Ashley's story reminds moms that there's no way to be perfect - but many ways to be great.

    "Rings very true - funny!"

I follow this author on social media and she is funny so I was keen to read this. Elements of this will ring true with all the Mamas I know - it's also a superb summation of the hold social media has over Mothers and the pressures we pile on to ourselves. Thoroughly enjoyable - you will laugh out loud and maybe wipe away a few tears!

    Story
"Ashley Keller is no Bridget Jones"

The main character ruined the book for me. I've read the comparisons to Bridget Jones, but they are viciously unfair to poor Bridget. Sure, she was a wreck, but she was a lovable, generous, wreck who only hurt herself. Ashley, though. Ashley has got to be the most selfish, self-entitled, self-righteous, judgmental protagonist to ever have been written into existence.

If Bridget saw a homeless woman starving and cold, she would buy her a Burberry jacket and then bemoan her overdraft. If Ashley saw the same woman, she would envy her the ability to sleep through the night before accidentally having her arrested. Then find a way to blame her husband for it.

I finished the book, but it was a hate read. A predictable hate read. I liked the narrator, and the story line was good, but somehow, compulsive self-indulgence and impulsiveness does not have the same charm when the end result is a homeless child.

"Narrator overacted... first book I've returned to audible"

The story could have been good had the narrator allowed the writing to do its own work. Unfortunately, the narrator had such an incredibly affected tone that I couldn't get through a full chapter. It was cringeworthy. Writing this comedic doesn't need so much interpretation from an overly dramatic narrator. Thankfully audible allows returns. This is my first book to fall into that category. I may try a non audio version at some point since the writing sounded like it had potential to be a good read.

    "Awesome Book"

This book was great! The imagery throughout painted detailed pictures of the characters. The main character Ashley was extremely relatable to me. Overall, I enjoyed the book and look forward to a sequel ASAP!
The narrator did a wonderful job and was very engaging, making the book hard to cut off. I read this book in one day between work and and home.
If you haven't read it... It's definitely worth it!

"Chick Lit but laugh out loud funny"

This book is chick-lit... but more specifically mom-lit. It is airy and of hardly any substance at all... but I still love it. It's relatable and funny.

My issue with it though, is that there's a certain deus-ex-machina to the ending that weakens the entire book, in my opinion. The main character digs herself a hole so big there's no way she could possibly get out... until she does (I'll spare you the spoilers).

    Story
    "Amusing but disappointing"
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

The main character, while relatable at many times, makes some very stupid choices that really turned me off the story. I had hoped to find the book humorous, but instead I was cringing at the way she related to her husband and managed money (her relationship with her mother-in-law made me laugh out loud though): the story would have been better if the main character showed a greater level of responsibility and consideration in these areas.

What about Tara Sands’s performance did you like?

Tara Sands was very animated and brought out the emotions of the scenes well, but as some other reviewers commented, her level of animation seemed over-the-top at times. She had distinct voices for nearly each character, which made it easy to follow along with the conversations they had.

    Any additional comments?

I am a stay-at-home mother of a toddler and infant, so some of the sections that others may have found amusing- like her financial troubles- just hit too close to home for me. I normally finish a book in 1-3 days, but this one took me weeks and I debated about finishing it.

    "Great listen"

I enjoyed everything about this book. It was funny, cute and had some unexpected twists. My husband doesn't like listening to my audio books on road trips but he was laughing and making comments the entire drive. So double win!
