Publisher's Summary

June's first husband was killed in a car crash. Against all the odds, her daughter was uninjured and, in another miracle, June found love again with the policeman who rescued them.

Six years on, they are a happy family. But now June's second daughter is dying without the new heart she so urgently needs. And her first daughter, along with her husband, is dead, killed by Shay Bourne, an itinerant workman they welcomed into their home. The crime was so heinous that Shay has been given the death penalty.

Shay is going to die, and he is looking for redemption. And he wants to give June's daughter his heart.

    "An amazing story"

As usual Picoult does not let her readers down. The well-crafted characters with the multi-narrator narrative is excellent. An emotional read with a mix of love, loss, hope and a good ending.

    "Brilliant"

I loved this story. It was intriguing and thought provoking. Be prepared to be pulled in every direction emotionally. Beautifully read, I couldn't switch it off. I have become a big fan of Jodi Picoult.

    "Thought-provoking and engrossing"

Jodi Picoult certainly tackles difficult and controversial topics as the subjects for her books, but manages not to make them into polemics: instead she sucks you into the lives of her characters who seem to exist and make you want to know what will happen to them. Having different voices for the characters adds to the feeling that one is witnessing a real story.

In Change of Heart she almost confronts too many issues by combining the arguments for and against the death penalty; medico-legal issues over organ-donation; with a big dose of religious speculation about the possibility of a second coming of Christ and questions about the authenticity of the Biblical story. I thought the author incorporated her religious themes more engagingly and entertainingly than Dan Brown in his books who tends to preach. However, I think Jodi Picoult pulled it off to create a memorable and engrossing book that certainly got been thinking about ethical and moral issues.

    "Change of Heart"

    Thought provoking and disturbing.
Although I thought I knew where this plot was leading, it still had me entwined.
Well worth the download, all characters well represented in the narration.

    "Change of HEART"

I so enjoyed this book and the characters stayed with me long after I had finished listening to it. It was clever and unpredictable, I just wanted it to go on and on and in some ways never finish.

    Story
    "Thought provoking"
Where does Change of Heart rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I would say it lies in the top third.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the twists and turns in the story, the fact it is told from different viewpoints and that it makes you think about issues.

Which character – as performed by the narrator – was your favourite?

Father Michael was probably my favourite as he seemed the most human.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me think and contemplate how I'd react in various situations.

    Any additional comments?

Sadly, the English accent attempts by two of the narrators were terrible and a little distracting as a consequence. However, it didn't hamper my enjoyment too much.

    Story
    "Religion Overload"
What did you like most about Change of Heart?

The idea that a person with no hope of continuing his own life would still have the humanity to try to make retribution for his acknowledged crime seems to me the message conveyed by this story.

What other book might you compare Change of Heart to, and why?

My Sister's Keeper because there is a message of a similar kind in it also. A conflict of the emotions between what is right and what is felt in the irrational sense.

Which character – as performed by the narrator – was your favourite?

Maggie because she put aside her life and other work in order to get the best result from a terrible set of circumstances.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

The real and present danger of capital punishment

    Any additional comments?

The author labors the point again and again as if preaching to a child. We did, I would imagine, get the message very early on that there was more to the crime than he had admitted, therefore, the surprise element was diluted.

    "BORING!!"

I can't believe a book with such a thought-provoking subject could be so boring! Talk about rambling on and on and on... This book should have been half as short and would have been much better that way.

However, the narrators are good and the idea is brilliant. The religion theme could bother some people.

    "Change of Heart"

While this book was by my favorite author, it was not what I expected. I did not enjoy the spiritual intonation, although the twists and turns, and the thought provoking moments, were provided, as always, by author Jodi Picoult, in her awesome writing style.
