Summary

Number one New York Times best-selling author Ilona Andrews launches a brand-new Hidden Legacy series, in which one woman must place her trust in a seductive, dangerous man who sets off an even more dangerous desire.

Nevada Baylor is faced with the most challenging case of her detective career - a suicide mission to bring in a suspect in a volatile situation. Nevada isn't sure she has the chops. Her quarry is a Prime, the highest rank of magic user, who can set anyone and anything on fire.

Then she's kidnapped by Connor "Mad" Rogan - a darkly tempting billionaire with equally devastating powers. Torn between wanting to run and wanting to surrender to their overwhelming attraction, Nevada must join forces with Rogan to stay alive.

Rogan's after the same target, so he needs Nevada. But she's getting under his skin, making him care about someone other than himself for a change. And, as Rogan has learned, love can be as perilous as death, especially in the magic world.

This was my first Ilona Andrews book. I have since read 5 more. However, it wasn’t love at first sight. Let me tell you about the negatives first.

I found the first half of this book excruciatingly slow. Nevada was boring. The story had too many facts and technical detail. It was lovey dovey family mumbo jumbo which bored and they kept calling every one “Name Surname, occupation”. Even after the umpteenth time the character entered the story. I struggled to remain engaged as the information was too distracting. There was over explained settings. Hairstyles, wallpaper, pillow covers…. Ok… maybe not pillow covers. But almost.

At first I struggled to get used to the narrator’s voice as well. She sounded much older than I was used to. Bùt, I got used to it and after a while it felt right. She did amazing sound effects and had different voices for different characters.

As the book progressed, I liked it more and more. It was refreshingly lie-less. Nevada also had more grit than I gave her credit for during the first part of the book. The story was escapism through fantasy settings and magic powers.

I suspect I got used to the writing style and narrator during the second half of the book, so I could emerge myself in the story and ignore the irritations. Focusing on the story definitely helped, as it was fun and entertaining.

So I read the next two instalments too. They were fun … more about that later.

Captivating and brilliantly narrated.

The focus was on the hunt for Adam and I found Adam underdeveloped. The world building was not over done. Navada was a bit self righteous and I was disappointed by the ending. The epilogue just confused me, because it was a setup for the next novel with a plotline and characters I did not know.

A great read

This narrator is just perfection, her voices fit the characters perfectly and she's a great storyteller. I really enjoyed the story, this is the first paranormal book in ages I've given 5 stars. Andrews builds up the world really well, and the characters are so witty and full of life. I'll be moving on to book 2 immediately! The only criticism I have is that the cover art doesn't really fit, and the title is a bit misleading (sounds like a cheesy erotica, whereas the romance here is more subplot). Love a hidden gem though!

As always great

Another great book from Ilona Andrews..
A tiny bit slow in the beginning for my taste but it made up for it later... A story with a lot of story, details, funny remarks that leaves you laugh out loud, passion, strong characters...

Absolut worth a credit... As also the other series of this author...

And the narrator is just perfect for these books.

Great story!

This story was gripping throughout and had me invested in the characters from the outset.

It has a well balanced mix of action, magic, sexual tension and wonder and I loved it!

The narrator does a great job and easily identifies each character at all times.

Definitely recommended!

Loved It

If you could sum up Burn for Me in three words, what would they be?

Took me there.

What other book might you compare Burn for Me to, and why?

Mercy Thompson series, or Kate Daniels Series for strong female leads.

What about Renee Raudman’s performance did you like?

Intimate.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Scorching....

Any additional comments?

Very much looking forward to book 2.

What even was that accent?

The old western film accent was so unbelievably unnecessary and took away from my enjoyment of the story. Her voice trying to portray the MMC made me think he was an elderly man for so long. I didn't even realise he was the MMC for ages, thought he was just an older side character.

I will continue the series as the magic system and world were cool, but definitely not on audio if it's the same narrator.
