Summary

The unabridged, downloadable audiobook edition of Belle, from the number one best-selling author, Lesley Pearse. She witnessed a murder - and now her life is in danger. Fifteen year-old Belle, though raised in a London brothel, is an innocent. But when she witnesses one of the girls brutally strangled by a client, she is cast into a cruel, heartless world. Snatched from the streets and sold into prostitution, she is made a courtesan in New Orleans. At the mercy of desperate men who crave her beauty and will do anything to keep her, Belle's dreams of home, family and freedom appear futile. Are Belle's courage and spirit strong enough to help her escape? And what will await her at the end of the long, dangerous journey home? Lesley Pearse, author of number one bestseller Stolen, has done it again with Belle - a heroine for our times: a strong woman trying to be good in a world gone bad.

The most elongated book ever

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No .... This book could be half the length if the narrator didn't anunciate every word and read normally and why the author felt the need to re-cap the story a number of times I have no idea totally annoying and wasteful 'padding'

Would you be willing to try another one of Sherry Baines’s performances?

Not really it is painful to listen to her ... I was nearly crying with pain at the end with her over annunciation New Orleans was just that irritating I nearly did not finish the book

Did Belle inspire you to do anything?

No, Belle did not inspire me to do anything except never to listen to the next book and return it.

Any additional comments?

The most irritating English narrator ever ....

Excellent

Set in 1910 London, this tells the story of teenage Belle's ordeal. It's a brilliant tale, with never a dull moment and Belle proves to be clever and resilient. The narration is top quality.

Amazing

This was such an interesting book. I could not stop listening. From the minute it started you were gripped by the storyline, which is unusual as most other books you have to listen for a few chapters before you are hooked. I would recommend this to everyone

Sadly, a disappointment

I was quite intrigued by the subject of this book, prostitution in the Victorian era and the kidnap of young, sometimes very young girls, to furnish that trade. However, somewhat naively, I was not expecting the graphic sex scenes that occurred right the way through the book.

For this reason only I found it difficult to cope with. Nevertheless, the story was a good one with great characterisation and I read it to the end.

Most enjoyable

I enjoyed this novel very much and it was nicely read. The life that Belle led was fascinating - she came across as a likeable young lady and I really did care what happened to her.

My only problem with the story is that it surely cannot be possible for one person to have so much bad luck! - every time she got on her feet something would happen to crush her life completely. However - this criticism aside - I was captured by Belle and her tale of woe.

A Gripping story

What did you like most about Belle?

An intriguing story that kept you thinking of whats going to happen next, where was this leading?

Who was your favorite character and why?

Belle of course was my favorite as you here of so many stories like her but many do not have such an ending.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

I loved it when she realised who her father was.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did not want to have to stop listening but unfortunately jobs have to done.

Any additional comments?

Its an all round story of a struggle of the life for a young girl who has to deal with what life throws at her. A MUST read!

Gripping, massive plot, superbly developed characters

Belle is a superb book which takes you on a journey capturing the lives of many characters that Belle comes into contact with. The historical element for when the story is set is vividly portrayed so one is under no illusion about life in London in the early 1900's.
