Summary

Unlike the rest of her family, Maggie Walsh has always done the right thing - that is until the day she leaves her husband and takes refuge with her friend Emily, a screenwriter in Los Angeles - a city where even the palm trees are skinny. Soon Maggie's doing all sorts of things she's never done before, such as wearing sunglasses in the shower and pitching scripts to studio executives - and meeting a mysterious man named Troy, who is so non-stick he's known as Human Teflon.

LA Angels, review

In this book we meet sensable Maggie who has done the right things all her life. She is a prime example of a good daughter, sister and wife. The book starts when Maggie leaves her husband of 9 years because she finds out he's been seeing another woman. After a few months of deep depression, she goes to LA to live with her scrip writer friend Emily for amonth. The glamorous city teaches Maggie a lot about life and herself. She certainly discovers that the glory glitter and glamour of LA only is a shiny surface and that the capital of movie stars perhaps isn't all that it's cracked up to be. In true Marian Keyes style, we get to hear about all the changes Maggie goes through as well as her past which explains her current situation. A past which reveals that Maggie hasn't always been little miss perfect.

This book, like most of Marian Keyes' written work, is full of humour, good language and at times, tears.A relaxing, entertaining read perfect for the summer.

An Enjoyable Listen

As with Marian Keyes' other books in the Walsh Family series, this story flows from simple to more complex as you continue listening, making it well worth it. There is humour and lightness here, as you would find in many 'chick lit' books, but it is well balanced with the depth and complexity that define people and their relationships. All in all, this was a lovely book and I greatly look forward to the next one in this series. The narration was also excellent and complemented the story perfectly.

Very funny LA observations...

If you could sum up Angels in three words, what would they be?

Funny - clear - thoughtful

What did you like best about this story?

Observations about LA life

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Any additional comments?

Brought this as I was going to LA for a few weeks and thought it would be fun to listen to a story based in the city I was visiting. It was continually funny, thoughtful and showed the real differences between America and Ireland/Uk.... thank you for a great listen

Lovely light entertainment!

What made the experience of listening to Angels the most enjoyable?

The story as it unfolds is really interesting, I love the main character's view of America and her life, she is a very likable girl.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Lara -> she was fun and free and well described

What three words best describe Gerri Halligan’s voice?

Entertaining

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I listen to audiobooks int he car and I often sat in the drive for a while before switching off and going inside, it was really very entertaining.

Any additional comments?

The American accents were a bit annoying, they were too forced. I love the Irish accents though, they made the characters so much more interesting.

Mostly good

I enjoyed this book up to a point, undemanding good for bedtime reading. But I couldn’t stand Maggiesfamily and found them unconvincing and aggravating

Pleasant enough

I was slightly disappointed by this. It felt long and was only really funny in bits. Not as good as her other books not as sharp and witty.
The funniest parts involved the antics of the main character’s family rather than anything she did.
It was fine. Pleasant enough. Just not great. I loved the narrator though. She was excellent.

Charming

Easy to listen to. Laughed out loud at times at dry humour. Good story and interesting to read rest of series about Walsh sisters.
