Summary

With his older brother's betrothal announced, Lord Michael Cynster is freed of all familial expectations. But the allure of his previous hedonistic pursuits has paled. Then he learns of the mission his brother and his fiancée have been assisting with and volunteers to help by hunting down a hoard of gunpowder now stashed somewhere in London.

Michael's quest leads him to the Hendon Shipping Company, where his sole source of information is the fetchingly attractive Miss Cleome Hendon. When Michael asks about the carters who transported the gunpowder, Cleo offers him a bargain: she will lead him to the carters he seeks, but only if he agrees to include her as an equal partner in the mission.

But their investigation proves dangerous, and the further they go in tracing the gunpowder, the more deaths they uncover. Soon Michael and Cleo find themselves tangled in a fight for their lives - one that forces them to face what has grown between them, to seize and defend what they both see as their path to the greatest adventure of all: a shared life, a shared future, a shared love.

Pare it down

Not the author’s best. Story was okay but it had so much repetitive review of the plot I kept skipping forward to listen for some action in the story. I am reluctant to start the last book of the trilogy.

Never Again

I will never again select a book ruined by this narrator. Audible you should do better. There are too many good narrators to use one so bad as this.

least engaging storyline of the trilogy.

the story was ok. fwd through the sex scences, never got to point of suspension of disbelief. it filled the storyline holes the other two left.

Sloooowww

Dull, boring, repetitive, predictable. Story could have been told in a third of the pages.

A book and good narrator, but BAD end result.

The book MIGHT have been very fun, and the narrator was good, but the two did NOT mesh well together. Finishing this book was honestly a chore. It's a shame because neither of the two were were bad, they just didn't mesh well. The story DRAGS along, and the narrator's speed and speech patterns slow it down more. He is good at what he does, but when you have a detailed book, and a methodical narrator.... Oh and it became a game to count how many times the phrase, "gun powder" could be used in a single chapter.

DISAPPOINTED!

This was disappointing. instead of having one really good book it was split into three. This book was like the slow detailed middle of a book. One mediocre danger scene and an equally mediocre love scene. This is not what I've come to expect from this author.

The narrator is not a good fit for this book

Would you try another book from Stephanie Laurens and/or Matthew Brenher?

Stephanie? Yes Matthew? not so much, he narrates well but not following Simon Prebble.

What other book might you compare An Irresistible Alliance to and why?

I can't, 15 minutes in? I was so displeased with the narration I quit listening. Don't get me wrong, he can READ, but he cannot perform.

Would you be willing to try another one of Matthew Brenher’s performances?

nah. His narration is cold and there is so passion.

Any additional comments?

PLEASE get another narrator for Stephanie's books, they are lovely dances in life to enjoy, but not the way Matthew reads them.

Great Series...I can't wait for Louisa's story....

i still miss Simon Prebble but Matthew Brenher is getting better on the narrations....Story is great...Jack Heddon's daughter was not mentioned on any of the Cynster's Series so i was not aware of her existence.. but she's perfect for Michael..
