Summary

He's trying to forget....

Alex Stewart, ex-Marine and tough-as-nails boss of the fledgling covert surveillance company, The TEAM, ditches his success and flees to his cabin in the deep woods. He's had enough. Four years after the deaths of his wife and daughter, he's been stuck in the anger stage of grief. Life used to make sense.

Not any more.

She's trying to remember....

Left to die in those same deep woods, Kelsey is the last thing Alex expects to find at his cabin. She's everything he's running from. Responsibility. Memories. Having to care about someone who could hurt him. To make matters worse, she can't remember her name. Neither can she explain the marks on her body, nor why two darling baby boys haunt her dreams.

But Alex can....

Hooked from the 1st chapter

What made the experience of listening to Alex the most enjoyable?

Troy brings the characters to life with his narration, his voice is amazing no matter the gender or ethnicity of the character. I forget that it's only him narrating throughout the story.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Alex?

Even though it's Alex's story, I love watching the relationship between Harley and Kelsey.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Kelsey remembers what happened, it feels like you're right there with her. It's heart-wrenching and you just want to hug her through the pages of the book.

Any additional comments?

This story keeps you on your toes the entire time. You're kept wondering what happened to Kelsey's children, and what her husband is truly capable of. It's amazing journey to go on with the characters, and it gets you hooked for the rest of the series!

Great romantic suspense

This was a well narrated and entertaining audiobook, with the story of 2 people who experience the worst losses imaginable and find each other by accident. I highly recommend this first book in a series!

Great start of a series

Okay, I didn't start Irish Winters' sniper series from the beginning. That truly shows the fact that the books are stand alone and can be read in any order.

After reading the blurb, I decided to hold off on ALEX as it warned the reader about the sensitive topic of wife abuse and I didn't want to get a heavy emotional book.

When I did go back and read ALEX, I got the gut wrenching emotions but I also got more incite into what made Alex develop as a strong character for this series.

Alex was my first audio book and I know I will collect the whole series on kindle and audio versions.

The narrator is very good and makes the story come to life. I admit th as t I've listened to Alex more than once.

Emotional & Heart-wrenching!

This is an emotional and heart wrenching story that will stay with me for a while. I cried tears of sorrow and joy and fell in love with not only two special people, but also with two amazing dogs! Alex and Kelsey are both grieving from tragic loses and both endure unbelievably difficult experiences before they can finally accept love. Be prepared for an emotional ride you won't soon forget. I enjoyed this emotionally packed story.
Troy Duran does a wonderful job narrating and brings the story to life.
I look forward to the next book in this series.

Touching Romantic Suspense

I enjoyed this feel good story about two severely wounded people who meet in dramatic circumstances and in spite of events continuously spiralling downwards they are able to heal each other and find peace.

What a tender story

I loved this book. There was a perfect amount of real life drama and a real life savior to make this story really speak to your heart.

The PTSD warning attached to this story was a good choice. This story truly struck home and I had to skip past some parts of this book. Making it personal only addad to the story. though it was triggering it was also encouraging Iin a real believable kind of way not a fairytail.

I'd definitely recommend this book.

Memories can replace the sadness.

I listened to the audio of this amazing book.
Alex has to escape people, his business, and his anger. He lost his wife and daughter four years earlier and can't get past it. An ex-marine, he now gets well paid for consulting with the government and private ops. His team is all former military top of the line personnel. Only those close to him look past the brash angry man to see the pain. He escapes with his two retired K9 service dog to his cabin in the woods only to find a barely alive bloodied woman who remembers nothing except her first name.

Kelsy has escaped a nightmare and more is yet to come. Can the two easy the broken bodies and souls of each other?

This story will reach in to test the emotions of the strongest. The pain and joy, heartbreak and memories of other times. We get to see the best and worst of people. These two do not have an easy time. Is there a breaking point? Is love enough to get past anything?

As the start of the series, the wonderful forced me to get the rest of the series. I was drawn to read or listen to the entire series. A strong recommend.

Alex

The story was well written in a technical sense. The words flow easily from sentence to sentence. The plot was exciting. I liked the characters, but the conflict was too over the top with no regard to the consequences. No mother gets over a loss like that in a year, I'm sorry. It really took me right out of the story. Why wasn't she offered therapy? Why wasn't her ex-husband's trial discussed? How did he get out of jail? None of that was addressed. That's why I only gave the story 2 stars.

Bad book and barely okay narration..

Yeah, I have a hard time with military men who own a “covert surveillance business” saying words like “heck” and “dang.” That sounds totally ridiculous, IMO. If you’re going to write a military story then have them talk like military men.

That being said, I can’t finish this book. I can’t go through 345 pages of hecks and dangs. At this point I’m done. I can certainly see why there are 211 reviews on this book and 65 on the next and 46 on the one after that, to where several of the series only has 20 and 30-something reviews. A military man saying heck and dang just don’t cut it.

I used my iPad to do a search and it’s at page 208 when they finally have sex. I have no idea what kind it is: hot and steamy or vanilla. I really didn’t care since the men didn’t talk like men so how good could the sex be.

As to the narrator: He was barely ok. He did sound masculine when he did Ashley’s voice, and that was kind of annoying, but Alex’s voice was nice and sexy.

Good story premise but story doesn't quite do it

Would you try another book from Irish Winters and/or Troy Duran?

I'd be hard pressed to want to try another book with this narrator or author. The story was appeared to be finished about half way through, but it kept going. It held on for longer than I think it should have.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Troy Duran?

He did a good job narrating, but the variation on the voices weren't very dimensional. I would try another book, but I'm hesitant.

Could you see Alex being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

No, it's not exactly movie material.
