Summary

From New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts comes a tale of palace intrigue and royal romance.

Princess Gabriella had escaped captivity, but she'd lost her memory and her kidnappers were still on the loose. She needed a protector fast, and brash American Reeve MacGee was the perfect man for the job. The handsome ex-policeman could handle absolutely anything - except falling in love with the stunning, vulnerable woman in his care.

A Love Story with an enjoyable plot line-Bk 1 of 3

I'm a huge fan of Nora Roberts, and although it's her romantic suspense novels, and her "In Death" series written under JD Robb that I enjoy the most, this more classic love story was very good. It is book 1 of one of her trilogies and it's one of her best in this classic romance genre. I highly recommend this book. In addition to my favorite author, my favorite narrator, Susan Ericksen, performs this book. She brings the characters to life for me and makes everything she reads more enjoyable. I often search for audiobooks with her as the narrator and 95% of the time, it leads me to another well written novel or a different series written by very talented authors. I've learned to trust that if she is the narrator, the probability is high that I will enjoy the book. Affaire Royale was a fun book containing both substance and depth, which I appreciated.

So so for Roberts

Susan Ericksen first let me say is one of my favorite narrators. I simply love the intensity she brings to the characters. The story was okay for the start of a trilogy . Nora does has more engaging trilogies. The story was charming. I would hold off on the purchase unless you simply like Nora Roberts book

I love NR and SE, but...

I don't think this was one of NR's best, and I have read a LOT of her books. Not much character development, very little emotion, and a predictable plot as well. The romance was negligible, and seemed forced. I thought it was so-so at best.

I think part of the problem was the narration. I think Susan Ericksen is fantastic, and I have every one of her "In Death" performances (42 to date), where I think she is brilliant!. But I don't think she was right for this book. Her accents seemed off - although she does an excellent job at the Irish brogue for Roarke in the In Death series, I think she failed miserably with the accents in this book. And I thought her voice was just a little too matter-of-fact for the princess. It left me disconnected from the story - I didn't really feel the romance at all.

If this is the first of a series, I am not sure I will purchase the next one. Well, if it's on sale, maybe...

However, this won't stop me from purchasing other books from NR, JD Robb. or those narrated by SE. This one was just not up to par, that's all. Sorry, Susan - guess even you have bad days. :(

Not her best work.

Very disappointed. One of my favorite authors but not one of her best efforts, by any means.

Not worth the credit

This book was a struggle to finish. I guess Miss Nora was still finding her voice back then or the story was targeted at teen girls. I found it quite boring & predictable. There weren't any moments I really got excited about and the interesting conversations I usually enjoy in Nora Roberts books was missing here.

Is this really a Nora Roberts Book

What disappointed you about Affaire Royale?

Very slow.

What was most disappointing about Nora Roberts’s story?

Did not start out right, maybe the characters did not feel real.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Susan Ericksen?

Couldn't say, but Susan was not good.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Affaire Royale?

First time ever, I did not get very far before I cut my losses

Any additional comments?

Definitely a BIG FAN of Nora, but this was not her.

Not Nora Roberts standard

What did you like best about Affaire Royale? What did you like least?

I've read so many of her books and this one just couldn't keep me interested at all. The plot boring and way too many descriptive words - get to the point!

Have you listened to any of Susan Ericksen’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Meh

Meh! This is not the best Nora Roberts book. Romance was weak with some good moments. Sorry was unique though.
