Publisher's Summary

Adrian Mole is 34 and three quarters, almost officially middle-aged, when Mr. Blair tells Parliament that Weapons of Mass Destruction can be deployed in 45 minutes and can reach Cyprus. Adrian is worried that he might not get a refund on his holiday. But that's not all that is bothering him. There's his odd girlfriend Marigold who has become distressingly New Age. And his son Glenn who is in Deepcut Barracks. Would Mr. Blair have been quite so keen if it had been his son manning a roadblock?

"Just as good as I remember"

This book took me back to the time I read and then watched the original Adrian Mole books/TV programmes.... Excellent listen for the summer holidays. but please be careful, I laughed out loud at some of the antics, so be warned don't listen anywhere that if you laugh out loud you'll get into trouble.

    "Moley"

I had read the early Adrian Mole books some time ago and had selected this audio book as a light entertaining listen. Initially, I was unsure of whether I was going to like it - Adrian is no longer the gormless teenager but an adult with plenty of life-history behind him. For a while, the 'diary of a nobody' mix of humour and bathos was a bit hard going. However, it soon worked its charm on me and I ended up rooting for him. An added bonus was the interview with Sue Townsend at the end which was both interesting and provided many 'aha' moments with regard to elements of the plot of the book.
The narrator did an excellent job and the book lends itself to this format.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

Kipling cake references and innuendo were fun! Did you know a swan can break a man's arm?

    Any additional comments?

Thoroughly enjoyable listen, rooted for Adrian all the way!

"Tying up loose ends with a topical twist"
What made the experience of listening to Adrian Mole and the Weapons of Mass Destruction the most enjoyable?

This is best read after the earlier Adrian Mole diary stories. It is satisfying to see what happens after earlier adventures and familiar characters are included as well as the the Prime Minister at the time of the story being set.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Adrian Mole because we hear his internal thoughts as well as his encounters and life events.

What about Paul Daintry’s performance did you like?

The variation to voice male and female with appropriate class characterisation.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    Can you believe it?

    Any additional comments?

Knowledge of British history of the period would help the enjoyment and several of the topical jokes.

What did you like most about Adrian Mole and the Weapons of Mass Destruction?

I enjoyed the humour and also how the book used actual real events to mark it in time.

What did you like best about this story?

I like the diary aspect and how some comments were short and were left to the imagination while others went into detailed humourous explanations.I also enjoyed the characters although Adrian Mole irritated me lots of times due to his spineless attitude.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

The scene I found the most interesting but excrutiating was when Netta Flowers invited Adrian and her family to discuss whether she was to have and open marriage with new partner or cut herself away from Michael.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I had lots of different emotions: laughter, anguish and irritation with Adrian Mole for not having a spine.

"Dont think about it - Just get it"

I was not aware that The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole had follow on books - I am so glad I found this, Many a laugh out loud moment provided! And the best thing is Adrian is about the same age as me, so an easily relatable story - Especially the multiple visits to Homebase. A very entertaining book

    "Hoorah!"

I've read all the Mole books now. He was part of my youth and now follows me into my thirties.
Townsend has created a monster, but one with whom you constantly feel for, cringe when he blunders, and smile when he shows his deep naivety .

    "good light entertainment"

I downloaded this book as I enjoyed the tv series years ago. I was not disapointed. The story was enguaging (although not thrilling) as one would expect. I was born in Derby, and wasn't over convinced by the Leicester accent, which sounded more Salford at times. It was however well, and etertainingly read. If you want some light entertainment this fits the bill.

Love love love this book, I have read all the Adrian Mole books. This is my first audio, but didn't disappoint.
Adrian Mole is a national UK icon.
If you haven't heard of him by this audio and you'll grow to love him.
If you have heard of him; buy, listen, laugh, enjoy!
The interview with Sue at the very end of the book is worth a listen aswell.

    "Farewell, my childhood friend!"

I read the Secret Diary when I was 16, and the have kept up with all the subsequent publications, (I am 33) I must say, I am a little sad when Taunsand announced that this would be the last. I have always found the A.M diaries charming and delightful, but this is the first time I encounter Adrian in Audiobook medium. The rendition of the narrator was fantastic, especially the impression of Marygold. I hereby have choice but to give it 5 of 5 before saying "Goodbye, Adrian..."

    "Smart, Timely, Superb"

"Adrian Mole and the Weapons of Mass Destruction" is my first ever Adrian Mole book. I'm disappointed only that Audible.com only offers one of these, I'd love to download more Mole! The subject matter is both personal and political, and it's interesting to see how Adrian's consciousness plays much like that of the U.S., where a majority believed our administration's reasons for going into Iraq and are now disillusioned. Funny yet touching. The narrator is superb, his vocal characterizations for each of Adrian's friends, family members and lovers are distinct so it is easy to follow the story. And I will never forget this: A swan can break a man's arm, you know.

    "very enjoyable"

This is a very funny book. I grew up in England and listening to this book allowed me to reminisce about my old home and the humour that is distinctively British. Adrian is a character with many flaws and issues but remains strangely likeable. The narrator was excellent and really brought the book to life.

    "Great Book, Great Narrator!"

I just stumbled upon this book, and it has become one of my all-time favorites. It is consistently clever and amusing, without being "silly". The narrator is GREAT. I find myself laughing outloud on my way home from work and looking forward to the drive!

    "Frustrating & boring"

This book is mind-numbingly tedious. It is like Bridget Jones without the humour. He constantly makes stupid decisions, the characters are not likable or believable. Overall a waste of time-I only finished it because I was driving 6hours each way to a family reunion. I'm glad this is the end of the series.
