I wasn’t sure about this book, and feared as I listened to Beatrice tell Lucy her life story that the story would develop in a predictable way. In some ways it did, but there were some surprises too, like romances heading in new directions, the impact of war on Angie, and the training that Beatrice undergoes. The best thing about the book is the way that it draws you along as you are desperate to know the fate of the characters during WW2.

Not as predictable as I first feared
