Loved EVERY Minute

I just adored this book. It is lengthy and a real saga but I was totally hooked from the start. It is superbly narrated and the pace is excellent. The characters were convincing and well defined and the story, though complex, was thought provoking and convincing without seeming contrived or leaving loose ends. I was in another world whilst listening to this. Totally absorbing.

This author's book writing skills just get better & better

The story was indeed extremely well written. Each time I put the book down I always wanted to get back to it as soon as I could. The themes in the story all linked together so well. Heart breaking yet resplendent too. Very "real", totally imaginable. Narrator did the book much justice. Excellent read.

Loved it!

Any additional comments?

The story was pretty good and kept me listening. I like this kind of story, a telling in the present of life with secrets in the past. And this wasn't a bad version of this genre.
The narrator was brilliant, I'm usually dubious when a narrator decides to do voices and few manage to keep it up. In this case every voice was different and maintained, she even managed to make the men sound like men! Certainly will look for more books read by this narrator.

Gripping story

Would you listen to A Gathering Storm again? Why?

Yes, I would listen again. Even though I know the outcome, the story was so well crafted and told that I would enjoy listening again.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Beatrice was my favourite; her character was slowly revealed throughout the story and was not what I was expecting. I found that I admired her and cared about her so the final reveal was all the more emotional.

Which character – as performed by Gerri Halligan – was your favourite?

Angie.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It was difficult to turn off and I looked forward to listening to another instalment when possible.

Any additional comments?

I don't want to give the story away, but it wasn't a boy meets girl, boy goes to war story that I thought it would be - it was so much more. it turns into a rollercoaster ride through the second world war for the main characters with a secret slowly revealed. Well worth a listen.
