Love these dramas.

These BBC dramas are great & Baldi is a super detective.
But I do wish Audible would make the effort to get them in the right order before publishing them. Ep 2 comes before E 1 for example. That's the 3rd BBC drama series I've downloaded where this has happened. - UPDATE - Thank you audible for correcting this error now.

Terrible sound quality

The stories and performances are good but it's impossible to listen to, as it goes from so quiet you can almost not hear it to incredibly loud. I could only get through the first 3 chapters then removed it from my library sadly.

Whispering, damned whispering!

It's beginning to dawn on me that radio plays that are transferred to audiobook are an abomination.

It seems there are two main problems:
One, an imbalance in voice versus foley work - i.e the vocals are frustratingly drowned out by sound effects.
Two, the disproportionate use of hushed tones by the actors - not EVERYTHING can be that secret or intense can it?

For goodness sake, speak up!

Wonderful

Only 20 hours I could have done with another 20. Great story telling and cast.

Compelling

A fascinating series of unusual and interesting investigations that were also entertaining. I would recommend these to anyone who wants a bit of light relief.

I think there's a glich in Chapter 19

I love these stories and this dramatisation is very enjoyable. However, when I got to the middle of chapter 19 the story on my ipod suddenly stopped and skipped on to the next book. Initially, I had the same problem when trying to listen from my laptop but eventually I could listen through to the end of chapter 19, and onwards from audible and itunes However, I cannot seem to resolve the problem of the full recording not being available on my ipod, even though it looks as though the chapters are there, the ipod cannot play anything after the middle of chapter 19. I've tried downloading again, a couple of times, but to no avail. I've never experienced any issues like this before. If anyone at Audible could look at the recording and let me know if there is any resolvable issue with chapter 19 at your end, that would be helpful.

enjoyable stories

I've listened to these stories on BBC and always enjoy them. Unfortunately they're not in order, which is confusing. In the middle there's a story where Dr. Baldi decides to go back the church, then the stories carry on with him helping the Gardi. Couldn't someone have checked this? Please don't let this put you off listening, they're interesting light entertainment.

Far too quiet...

I have listened to a Father Paolo mystery before and I love this type of audio book. It feels like your sat in a theatre with all the different actors. I love David Thelfall! He's an amazing actor, however, as other reviewers have stated you cannot hear what the actors are saying! it's just too quiet. I hate returning audiobooks but unfortunately that is what I have had to do.

Great stories- always a twist.

These are great stories. Nothing too complex to follow but always with a bit of a twist. Performed really well but the sound level is low and a bit muffled when Paolo is speaking so demands a lot of concentration to hear all the words.
Very good value to have the whole set on one credit. It would be helpful if the titles of each episode were given at the beginning of each chapter rather than at the end!

So hard to hear!

With the ambient noise of the radio play, there were so many times that I couldn't hear what was being said. Father Baldi mumbles a lot. Very hard to keep up with.

The Best Series I've ever listened to....

I can't say enough good things about this series--you feel like you are standing near Baldi and Tina and can eavesdrop on their conversations. A must for anyone who is new or old to full cast audiobook performances. Thank you BBC4!!!

Extremely dull and predictable

Every story follows the same formula. And almost all end with a similar murderer characterized by one common trait so it is always easy to predict the ending. The actors are ok although I'm assuming the main character is supposed to be Italian which makes some of the stories ridiculous with an English narrator.

Recording sound quality very poor, volume too low to hear some voices

Although the list of amazingly talent professional actors seems great, the writing was only ok, and i was not drawn to be interested in the main character nor story lines. There was nothing very interesting nor endearing to make one wish to follow the main character on his adventures. The poor sound quality of the recording did not help, made dialogue hard to follow at times. Just did not click for me.

Good fun but not the BBC's best effort

This series is very well produced, as you'd expect from BBC radio. The main characters are fun but the plots become pretty formulaic and the Father Baldi's stuffy academic act repetitive. "You phone the Internet?" Really?

A good series

Easy listening, well read with good stories. I really enjoyed listening to the Irish accents even if they were difficult to understand at times!

Mildly Entertaining

Having difficulty finding a book I want, tired of today's formula of dysfunctional lead characters, everyone recovering from a tragic past or a divorce or a terrible boss, not to mention tiresome attempts at thrillers, I decided to give radio crime series a chance. Many have been very good, a wonderful surprise. This twenty hour presentation is worth a credit. My complaint is the mystery in each episode is way too obvious. I actually checked Irish law to see if suspects should be warned of their rights. Yes they should be cautioned but in these stories no one is warned and I can only remember one episode that involved a lawyer. Having said that, the characters are delightful, the acting fabulous, and the ending was great. So, buy it if you are tempted, twenty hours in nice.

Well dpme

Surprisingly entertaining. Refreshingly challenging. The subtle tension that exists betweem the two maim characters captures the reader's imagination regarding a potential love interest.
