Story
Someone has set fire to Mr Hick's cottage, but who could it be? Fatty, Larry, Daisy, Pip, Bets and Buster the dog have their very first case to solve. But it's not easy being detectives with policeman Mr Goon telling them to "clear orf". The Find-Outers are determined - they have to solve the mystery before Mr Goon does! In the original 1943 text, Fatty's nickname is based on the fact that his initials are F.A.T. as well as his size. All references to his size have been removed from this recording (based on the text from 2016) so that Fatty's nickname refers to his initials only.

Summary
Julian, Dick, Anne, George and Timmy the dog find excitement and adventure wherever they go in Enid Blyton's most popular series.
In book 10, Dick is woken by a light flashing through his window. Is someone trying to send him a coded message? When the Famous Five hear of an escaped convict in the area, they are on red alert.
The police won't help, so the Five have no choice - yet again, they'll be solving this mystery by themselves....

Captivating story...great performance
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I'd recommend any of these Famous Five audios recorded by the actress Jan Francis, but I think this one is a classic. Francis really brings these stories to life and does amazing voices for all the characters, she obviously loves these books - and it comes across. They are also good if you're looking for a title which spans across an age range-I've found my children of 4 and 7 have been captivated. Ideal for providing some quiet time, for kids and parents alike :).

This is a great book for kids
I loved the Famous Five when I was a kid. I remember going to the library in the hope of finding one that I hadn’t read. Now, of course, they are a bit tame. Nevertheless this was a good story and I can see how the adventures of these independent and adventurous children would have appealed to me. The are also kind and work together as a team which I find lovely. Like Treasure Island it’s a just plausible adventure. Mind you I find them a bit reckless and relying too much on the kindness of strangers. As a child I found Anne a drip now I think her a very sympathetic character and notice how she does a lot to solve the mystery. Mind you the boys are in charge which dates the work.

Oh dear, wrong currency again....
Enjoyed largely but flinched when Dick left a pound coin on table, and groaned when George took out 5ps from her box...... It really spoils it, can't understand why just a few words of text need to be changed. It really jars and spoils an otherwise thoroughly enjoyable listen.
