Summary
The hugely anticipated brand-new Rivers of London novel....
Peter Grant is facing fatherhood and an uncertain future with equal amounts of panic and enthusiasm. Rather than sit around, he takes a job with émigré Silicon Valley tech genius Terrence Skinner's brand-new London start-up - the Serious Cybernetics Company.
Drawn into the orbit of Old Street's famous 'silicon roundabout', Peter must learn how to blend in with people who are both civilians and geekier than he is. Compared to his last job, Peter thinks it should be a doddle. But magic is not finished with Mama Grant's favourite son.
Because Terrence Skinner has a secret hidden in the bowels of the SCC. A technology that stretches back to Ada Lovelace and Charles Babbage and forward to the future of artificial intelligence. A secret that is just as magical as it technological - and just as dangerous.

Enjoyed this
Heaven only knows why some found the writers device of the flashback so difficult with this book - it’s not as tho it’s a new thing. I found it easy to follow and once I was happy that Peter was still working for the Folly very enjoyable book. Nice to have a new story line and a few new characters. I was finding the MrPunch Faceless man 2 story rather tedious tbh, also on the plus side fewer references to laminated chipboard which is always good.
Excellent story, well read - keeps you guessing but still all under the control of Nightingale.
When’s the next one due out?

Very gripping story - well read, again
This latest book is great and I really enjoyed it. I’m not a techie but managed to absorb the facts without it detracting from the storyline. Well done and when’s the next one?

loved it. another great chapter in the series
as usual, kobna nails 40 billion accents and characters, the story is a nice tech magic crossover alt. universe, man should not want to meddle etc. nice, lots of openings for next books and spinoffs

Return to form for this series
I'm delighted that Rivers of London has returned to form with this, it's 7th book. After the disappointing trip to fairyland, Aaronovitch gives us what we want... a magical police procedural, lots of London, a weird conspiracy and portents of a dark future for PC Grant.

Fantastic as ever
Just finished it and already looking forward to the next one 😉😁 They’re top notch, Mr Aaronovitch, and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith - I can never ever imagine anyone else reading the books as wonderfully as you are! Thank you both

New story line feels a bit lost.
One of the things I've loved about all of the previous books is the humor and the character driven story. With this new book it feels as if Ben Aaronovitch is using the book to re-introduce all the characters but has not given them the same "full of life" feeling as before, or just mentioning them in the background like "my Gov's housekeeper, instead of saying "Molly". Also quite a few things from the previous story have not been tied up and I'm really hoping he does that in future books. Over all of course I liked it but I hope he goes back to the feel of his readers "knowing" the setting because they have read the rest of the books already, rather than trying to go over it all in one book.

Impressed but jot surprised
I constantly wonder why this series isn't as acclaimed as more well known franchises. Book after book it's consistently been good to excellent. This was one of my favorites so far. I'll be impatiently waiting for the next one.

its just great
Absolutely fantastic could not ask for any more from Ben Aaronovitch. A great addition to the series. At first, I was angry with how the story was going then confused then the light bulb hit and it all came together. Kobna Holdbrook-smith is a great narrator that's brought all the books to life.

Another great outing
Ben and Kobna, out and about, painting the town red and making more Hitchhiker's Guide references than I could pin down. Not the Peter Grant book to start with, but develops the setting nicely and every member of the cast feels like family at this point (even the great new ones).
