The hugely anticipated brand-new Rivers of London novel....

Peter Grant is facing fatherhood and an uncertain future with equal amounts of panic and enthusiasm. Rather than sit around, he takes a job with émigré Silicon Valley tech genius Terrence Skinner's brand-new London start-up - the Serious Cybernetics Company.

Drawn into the orbit of Old Street's famous 'silicon roundabout', Peter must learn how to blend in with people who are both civilians and geekier than he is. Compared to his last job, Peter thinks it should be a doddle. But magic is not finished with Mama Grant's favourite son.

Because Terrence Skinner has a secret hidden in the bowels of the SCC. A technology that stretches back to Ada Lovelace and Charles Babbage and forward to the future of artificial intelligence. A secret that is just as magical as it technological - and just as dangerous.

Just finished my second listen through and this is another great addition to the ‘Rivers of London’ series.

The story is as twisty as I’ve come to expect and I love the character development with Guleed, Peter and Bev in particular. Lovely to see Seawoll back too!

I love the addition of new characters and the way Kobna manages to make each one distinct. As usual, I forget it’s someone reading a book and just get lost in the story.

The bonus interview at the end is fab and I really appreciate the insight, not to mention it’s a fun listen.

A big thank you to the author/ publisher for making this available on the day of the hardback release as well. Can’t wait for the next addition!

Twisty with great characters

What a fantastic instalment to the Rivers of London books and expertly narrated. I started the book, not knowing what had happened to Peter Grant and let out a massive sigh of relief when the story and background are explained. Can't wait for the next book.
Fantastic Mr Aaronovitch, just fabulous.

Brilliant

I have all the River series and from the first I have been delighted by The Nightingale and Peter Grant. However False Value has left me in a bit of a quandry. The story seemed slow and forced - like what do we do with these characters now we have got this far. Peter Grant comes across as a bit of a dick and what has happened to Beverley? From being a feisty independent young woman she has turned into a caracature of herself. I cannot believe that she would discuss her and Peters sex live with virtual strangers and chidren to boot. Very lttle intrigue and even less supernatural content. Where are all the other Rivers - wheres Fleet, Tyburn even Mama Thames. Whats happened to Lesley? The Nightingale is barely only glimpsed as if he is of little importance now.
Taken out of the Folly Peter is just a bloke who can do stuff and not very interesting stuff at that. I know characters have to move forward but it seems Peter Grant has just stepped sideways and not very far! As always the narration is spot on but to be honest I would expect nothing less. I will listen again as I usually do cos there is often such a lot you miss first time round but I am decidely disappointed.

decidedly disappointing

narration brilliant as always, and though the jumping timeframes confused me a bit at the beginning (likely no problem in text format), I really appreciated the effort the author made to offer enough of what made the previous books great while also mixing it up so as to not just be going through the motions and churning out another sequel.

Appreciate the effort to keep format fresh
