Everything is on the line for probability mage Alex Verus in the 10th urban fantasy novel from the best-selling author of Fated.

Once Alex Verus was a diviner trying to live quietly under the radar. Now he's a member of the Light Council who's found success, friends...and love. But it's come with a price - the council is investigating him, and if they find out the truth, he'll lose everything.

Meanwhile, Alex's old master, Richard Drakh, is waging a war against the council, and he's preparing a move that will bring Alex and the life mage, Anne, under his control. Caught between Richard and the council, Alex's time is running out. To protect those he cares for, Alex will have to become something different. Something darker....

After the story became a bit repetitive in the last couple of books, it takes a turn and changes pace in the this volume. Finally there is some progress and we get a peak at some of Richard's big plans. Good Performance be Gildart Jackson, who I enjoy as a narrator. It feels as if he had ever so slightly changed his intonation on Arachne though. I'd really love for these books to be translated into a TV series. I struggle with all the different characteristics of Elsewhere and its probably easier to understand in a visual medium.

Closing in on the big finale

My goodness, I can’t get enough of this series and it just gets more and more thrilling. Just finished book 10 and it hasn’t lost any of the excitement. Really feel invested in the characters and plot lines. Only trouble is I listen too much and finish them too quickly before my next credit comes. Superbly written and captivating. What will I do when I get to the last one!

After the last two books, I was starting to feel that the story had lost its way. But now that I’ve listened this, I realise that it’s finally back on track and quite possibly leading to a grand finale. In fact, if the story had continued, we could have had the grand finale now! But, I guess that this is the way to make the money roll in. LOL.

There is still more story to tell, there are some things that need to be tied up and tidied up. So if the next book is the Grand finale I really hope that he takes his time and writes a real showstopper! One that simultaneously tidies things up, and satisfies our enjoyment of the world we have travelled through with Alex and co-.

I also hope that the Narrator gets his mojo back! It’s been a bit suspect over the past three stories - struggling with the female roles…

Finally Back On Track

Slightly racist accents - narrator sounds too old for the character but one of the best books

Story great narrator less so
